Normally if this happens the safety circuit of the TV may be activated. This is triggered by an internal problem. Start first with the common which is problems with the power supply circuit (the circuit right after the power chord). Check for leaking or swollen capacitors, burnt parts or loose parts or solders. If there are none there, you need to check the same items on the main board. If you find bad capacitors or burnt parts, take not of the label of the part as you would need to replace them with the same part.

Why does screen go black after a few seconds

Hope this helps.... Your monitor has an inverter issue. You know it's an inverter problem when:
1. Your monitor starts normally and displays the startup/desktop screen for a while.
2. Then it suddenly goes off, leaving a blank (black) screen or a very dim display.

To fix this black screen problem, change the inverter board (based on your monitor brand).

My Imac crashes. 10.6.4, 2 GB ram, 2 GHz core duo. I've started with a clean install and disabled (one by one) all start up apps. Out of the clear blue, the screen will go black & I have to turn it...

When you say "screen goes black," does the computer power down, or is it still operating? Does the sleep light come on? Does it respond to the keyboard and mouse? (Example: press the power button momentarily, wait a few seconds for the "Do you really want to shut down" message to appear, even though you can't see it, then hit the return key to answer "OK," and see if it shuts down.) Does the screen go black or come out of black if you tap the computer?
While your computer is working, go to System Preferences / Desktop & Screen Saver, the Screen Saver tab, click Hot Corners, and set a corner of your screen to Put Display to Sleep. Then next time your screen goes black, mouse your way into that corner, pause a few seconds, then mouse back out and see if your screen returns.

Hitachi 50" hd TV displaying black lines on screen

Sounds like your YBL-Y Buffer lower board is going out. There are 3 boards here. The Y buffer upper which controls the top half of the display, The Y buffer lower controls the bottom half and the Y-SUS main control those two boards. They work in unison. Usually if one goes out you have to replace all. You can also get lucky and just repalce the YBL and all may be well. Now if they are vertical lines up and down the OSD-On screen display, then this is indicitive on dry solder joints on the D, G E, F boards. Hope this helps...

Menu screen stays on. philips model# 32PF7320A/37

If you are talking about a continuing display of features and menus, press the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons at the same time to shut off that display.

If the problem is that the set acts like you are pressing the front panel button and random things happen, there may be bad switches. Sometimes if Windex or other cleaners have been sprayed on to clean the picture tube, they can drip down onto the board and cause corrosion which makes the switches funky. They need to be replaced and the board cleaned of any residue.

Blue screen and shut off by self

You will need to reset the Netcommand and tuner settings in the set. The little indented button in the front of the set needs to be pushed in (when the set is off). The front light will blink for about a minute or minute and a half. Then, reprogram the Netcommand settings. This should solve your problem. If you need more information, then, reply to this post and I will respond.
