Question about John Deere 420,1020,2010,2020,2510,2520 Tractor Float
I have a 1974 John Deere 2030 diesel tractor and the engine dies after running a couple of minutes. I've had the fuel pump rebuilt, but still having the problem. It starts runs great for a couple of minutes and dies like you've turned the switch off. Let it set a couple of minutes and it'll start and run another minute or so and it'll die again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I will assume you have bled the fuel system per the owners manual to ensure no air lock in your system. This is especially critical after replacing the injector pump.
The next step is to ensure you fuel filters are good and flowing and last but probably the problem is the screen on the petcock (fuel shut off) in the fuel tank. Remove this shutoff valve and clean the screen with a fine wire brush and carburetor cleaner.
