If you change the Date and Time and when you next boot up your computer the Date changes to some previous date then the CMOS/BIOS battery is flat and it needs to be replaced. Most motherboard use a 3 volt coin size lithium battery type CR2032 you need to check which type od BIOS battery your motherboard uses.

ASUS P5GZ-MX: Cmos Settings Wrong - Tryed New Cmos battery and setting time a date howto fix ?

It may just be that the new battery needs to be charged. I would leave it switched on for 24 hours to check. If this doesn't fix the problem, it could also be a failing BIOS chip or the charging circuit for the CMOS battery has failed. If the BIOS chip is not socketed or the cmos charging circuit has failed, you will need to replace the motherboard or find an electronics engineer to replace the failed components, this will probably be more expensive that a new board.

I have an intel g41 motherboard....every time i switchon d pc...it shows check cmos error and the time and date are set to defaluts

This error occurs when the BIOS battery is flat. Replace the BIOS battery, most motherboards use a lithium battery type CR2032, this is a coin size battery. Check the BIOS battery type used on your motherboard before you purchase the battery.
After replacing the battery go to the BIOS setting and set the Date & Time etc. and you will not have this CMOS error.

HP Desk Top Pavillion a815n - what type of mother board battery does it use?

The motherboard battery is the CMOS battery that has a part number of CR2032 and can be acquired at your local Walmart or Target type store. You will need to remove the side panel of the computer to get to the motherboard and just look for a round battery should be silver looking. Remove it and replace it with the one you purchased if it needs replacement that is.

How to change battery on asrock k7s8x motherboard

A coin-cell battery (CR2032) usually powers the real-time clock and CMOS memory. The battery is 3 Volts, 3/4" in diameter and has an estimated life of three years. When the computer is plugged in, the standby current from the power supply extends the life of the battery.
Just open the desktop, locate the CMOS (Coincell) and remove using screw driver. Replace the battery with CR2032 or an equivalent one.The following brands are used interchangeably for this item: Energizer (ECR2032), Duracell, Panasonic, Eveready, and 3M etc, which can be purchased from any local electronics store.

GoodLuck!
Dont forget to appreciate the solution if I could have been of any help!

Failed to take out motherboard

Hi Bhauryal,

Just want to now, do you mean you can't find the battery on the board or removing the battery didn't work?

If its the battery, it is usually a round flat coin like shinny thing on the board with a plus sign on it (like the batteries used on some watches), although there are some very old boards that use a different type of battery which looks like capacitors or small drum like things (but these type of batteries are not used on modern board designs anymore). If you really can't find the battery on your board, I suggest you check its documentation, you can try downloaing it from the motherboard's manufacturer website.

If you mean that removing the battery didn't work, it means that your board's CMOS has the capability to hold a charge to save the settings for a longer period of time, if your board has a CMOS reset jumper, I suggest that you use that instead, you will usually find it near the battery or BIOS chip. There are some PC manufacturers (especially branded ones) that implement a different method of BIOS reset so I suggest that you consult the PC manufacturer on how to do it (e.g. for DELL PC's you remove the CMOS jumper, power on the unit for a few seconds, power off, return the CMOS reset jumper again). Hope this helps.

Cheers and best regards,
