Question about Sony ICF-C25 Clock Radio

Open Question

Volume dial broken. The vertical axle that connects the volume dial to the potentiometer is snapped. It appears that the the pot and the dial are a single connected piece, but I'm not positive. I'll probably need to replace the part. I can buy a replacement alarm clock-radio for under 10 bucks, but I like to fix stuff!

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: One piece was found lose in the sony vcr (sony slv-n51)

My best advice is you should look for the service manual for the model. I would try Manuals in PDF for this, though they do charge, I have used them and they are a good company. Though you could try a web search to see if you can get it free first.
The reason I recomend you get one is not just that you will be able to identify the part straight away, but rather I suspect that the mechanism may have gone out of sync with the damage. And if it has you will have a hell of a job setting the mode switch without a the manual. And if that is not set right then all sorts will go wrong!

I just replaced my broken antenna for my CFD-S350 by calling Sony Parts and Support at (239) 768-7691. Cost only $7.99 and that included the $2.00 shipping charge.

Volume control not working

Left and right wires are like the ends of a carbon resistor.
The centre connection is the slider that slides along the carbon resistance.
Spray inside the device,
The centre sliders often loose connection from overuse.
Carefully take apart and clean & put slight tension back on centre slider.
Look to see if carbon track is worn out?

Take the centre wire off the Pot and try it on either end.
One will be full volume the other will be lowest volume.

Open the box and try to spray a cleaning/lubricating solution inside the volume pot mechanism like Deoxit D5, you can also spray a little of it on the output connectors where you plugin your cable that runs to the amp. If that doesn't solve your problem you have to replace the volume potentiometer. The machine I have had similar issues and I was lucky to have a pot close in size and resistance value as the original which in my case was broken, so I just replaced it. Good luck!

Not sure about the actual voltage, but the primary power board shows 94 V @ 2A. As this appears to be a variable speed drive, the voltage amplitude should vary depending on the speed potentiometer setting. The most likely culprit is the speed potentiometer. Poor design causes vibrations on the printed circuit board. This induces metal fatigue in the potentiometer terminations at the board. Eventually one or more terminals snap off. You could try removing the pot and connecting the wiper termination connection directly to the relative end for full speed? This is assuming you want it to run at full speed? Failing that you could try variable resistance settings and then replace the pot with a fixed resistance for the required final speed?

I have a old NAD 1300 pre amp. I need to replace the volume rheostat where can i buy the part?

Hi, for the price of servisol you may as well buy a brand new pot. The nad uses a dual carbon pot. Any electronics shop should have one.
Is it a pcb mounted type or one with loot solder tags?
A couple of quid, but if you want to upgrade, then spend around a tenner and get an alps conductive plastic pot.
Try this:-

Have a look on ebay, there should be loads.

Just found this mod.

If you need more help, give us a shout and i'll try harder :)

I have a Thomas Symphony Royale 782 with the rack portion of the rack and pinion volume control broken. Where might I find this component?

If it is the potentiometer that is broken, it is likely an AllenBradley "J" style pot.

Here is Digikey site for J pots. Choose resistance to match. You may need to check if it is an audio taper as well. The site should have them as well.

Novation X-Station 49 rotary potentiometers for volume output is broken. How to replace it?

The volume control will LIKELY be an "Audio Taper". If the shaft is broken off, you can measure the resistance between the outside terminals. Find a suitable replacement at or

Note: You may have to shorten the shaft to match the original one.

Some of the pots have the resistance marked on them. There are a couple conventions for marking resistance.

One of the channels is stuck at max volume, regardless of the setting of the gain pot. A can of air seemed to fix it last year when i had this problem, nothing this time. Any idea what might be...

Usually the said channel's slider/potentiometer's internals that are dirty/dusty, or the snap ring that holds it down came loose and no longer permits the internals to contact correctly. So first thing to do is to open up the pot and shoot contact cleaner in it and turn it/slide it a few times to get it in all the way and everywhere. Then just put it all back together and try it, if it didn't help it means the pot is done for and need replacing. If you do not know how to desolder and replace it, take te amplifier to your local technician to have him do it.

Blue Hat Company Mp3's volume dosen't work

You may try resoldering all of the connections on the volume knob circuit board. If one of the potentiometer (volume control) connections has broken free of the board, it may not be noticeable, but may hold the component off the board just enough to cause the problem you're having. If that doesn't help, the problem is most likely in the potentiometer itself, and you won't be able to replace it easily.
