Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
If you use a PS2 to play PS1 games, you need to use a PS1 memory card.

Thanks for using FixYa. As the PS1 games are not as complex as of PS 2, it means that there is an issue with the laser of PS2 or it’s dirty. Please spray some air into the DVD tray. Please also clean the lens with alcohol by using a cotton swab to resolve the issue. Also check that the CDs of games you are using are not scratched. To check this, play some other different games and see the results. You can also insert PS 1 memory card in slot 1 and it will save your PS 1 game.
