Question about Acer Aspire 5630 Notebook

Acer laptop video problem

Have a problem with a new Aspire 5630 with Vista home premium. The screen momentarily goes blank at seemingly random times, but the condition does not last for more than a second. Have sent it back under warranty twice. The first time, Acer replaced the hard drive claiming the original had defects. The second time, they claim they could not replicate the problem, and sent it back to me. Since the problem still persists, any idea what's going on?

OK HERE IS WHAT I SUGGEST

VISTA SUCKS the display seems to throw the drivers right off

1.) click start / right click my computer and choose properties

    2.) select device manager

3.) locate the display drivers in the tree view, right click on it and choose uninstall.

4.) hold the power button down till the system shuts down

    5. turn the system back on and vist will load a default driver

    that should solve your problem

If by chance you need to put back your driver then you can find it on the cd that came with the computer..

you problem is windows vist dont refrest the hardware fast enough,,

If by chance you reinstall the driver then you can compensate for it by

    1.) Rightclick on your desktop

    2.) Choose personalise

    3.) display and then settings

    4.) lower your screen resolution

    5.) increase your hardware axcelleration

    THATS IT

If the above fails and you are sure it isnt hardware ( i doubth its hardware) You can always formnat and revert back to XP

BUT THE ABOVE FIST METHOD SHOULD WORK
AND THE SECOND SHOULD COMPENSATE IF YOU NEED TOO..

    good luck

It could be power management. Many laptops are set to turn off the screen after relatively short periods of inactivity, to save battery power. You can manage your power settings in Vista like this:

Click on Start, then Control Panel.
Click on System and Maintenance
Click on Power Options

From here you have 3 choices - Balanced, Power Saver and High Performance. If it's on Power Saver, I'd say that's probably your culprit. To test it, put it on High Performance and see if that helps. But don't leave it there unless you don't use it for very long between charging, or you regularly operate it in a docking station or with a power cord.

If Power Saver isn't working for you, Balanced is probably the best bet, long term. Or, you can click on Change Plan Settings under any of those options to further customize them.

If it turns out that power saving isn't the problem, it could also be a loose cable between your screen and the motherboard. I think that's unlikely, however, as Acer would not have replaced a hard drive for that, and should have been able to reproduce it.

If power saving doesn't help, let me know and I'll look into other possible causes.

Hi,

When this happens are you doing anything specific (using some software or anything physical like touching a certain part of the laptop)?

I had a laptop once doing that and the problem was with the connection of the LCD to the board of the latop. That connection runs through one of the hinges.

In my case, I just applied some pressure around the hinge area and it went away (I guess I pushed the cable back into place).

does it turn any color? or just shuts off?

  • Asdrubal Perez Jan 09, 2008

i really doubt it could be the power management, because if you are using the laptop and randomly the monitor flicks or something, it means a cable is faulty...

there are also some little thingies on the sides of the monitor that tell the computer when the laptop its closed.. maybe those little buttons are failing too..

That would be my guess. Since it is still under warranty, take it back and let them mess with it.
