I record a DVD from VCR tape and try to play on another device

I record a DVD [on my Magnavox DVD and VCR combo unit] from tv or VCR tape and try to play it on another device. I have tried several other devices, and they indicate that the DVD is blank -- but I know it is not blank because the DVD plays fine on my Magnavox DVD/VCR combo.
I selected the "make compatible" menu option when recording with the idea that I could watch the DVD on any device and copy the digital file to my computer hard drive, flash drive, or any other electronic device.

What am I doing wrong?

In my research, I learned about finalizing the DVD, which was a new concept to me. I looked that process up in the manual and it did the trick.

When playing back vcr tapes on my magnavox ZV427MG9 A, i have a tracking problem with tapes recorded on slp. i get white streaks on the playback, and manual tracking does not help. tapes recorded on s

The VCR has at least four "heads" two are for 2 hr and two for 6 hour (sp and slp)

It is most likely one of the heads used in the SLP mode is slightly blocked with tape debris--heads need to be manually cleaned in the right way.

Magnavox vcr/dvd combo the vcr part only plays for 8 seconds

What you have is called a transport problem in the VCR unit--the mechanism is either jammed or something in it that loads the tape is bad.

Every time it is used it cycles to self check the mechanism--if it fails it is usually a belt bad or a gear assembly not working.

Someone would have to open unit to see what is happening.

Need to know if I can record from dvd to vcr on a magnavox ZV420MWB vcr/dvd combo

Magnavox ZV420MWB VCR/DVD Combo
The answer is YES YOU CAN! Take advantage of one-touch recording from videotapes to DVD+/-R and RW discs or from DVDs to VHS tapes. A variety of different inputs also let you record from compatible camcorders, external TV tuners or cable boxes.

CONSUMER ALERT: This model does not have a built-in tuner for recording TV programs and will not record copy-protected tapes or discs. For more information, call the Federal Communications Commission at 1-888-225-5322 (TTY: 1-888-835-5322) or visit the Commission's digital television website at: www.dtv.gov.

Want to play a tape on my magnavox vcr GDV228MG9. what mode should the TV (SANYO DS27510)be set on? Should it be the video mode 1 or 2 or what? I have tried both and can not get vcr to play. altho I did...

The most common problem is people tend to not use the correct output on the back of the combo unit, make sure that you are connected to the DVD/VCR output on the back of your combo unit, not to DVD only. If you are plugged into the back of the TV, use mode AV 2, on the front use AV1.

you probable have a dirty video head...you can try a tape head cleaner tape/// they sometimes work.... if not you need to get to the video head and clean it with a liquid cleaning solution---
one of your tapes may have a bad spot on it causing the problem...if you clean it and use the same bad tape again you can cause the same problem again

VCR tape playback not good

Check your "tracking" If the tape played fine in the old machine, then tracking is the answer, provided that the new machine records good.
