Question about Umax Astra 3400 Flatbed Scanner
There's only one way I've found to run this scanner on a computer with Vista, but its cheating since you really don't use Vista. Look at Knoppix 6.2 (www.knoppix.org). It has a scanner app (Xsane) that will run the Astra 3400 (using Plustek USB driver). The catch is you have to boot from the Knoppix CD (or DVD) which lets you run LINUX in your RAM, but won't mess with Vista on the hard drive. Save your scanned work to USB flash memory when done, then boot back to Vista and do whatever with those saved files. You have the option of various file types and even multipage PDFs.

I am sorry according to their website I don't believe Vista will work with this scanner, it was meant for windows 98 / 2000 and can work on xp as well.
Have you tried running it in "compatibility" mode for xp? Right click on the file and select "properties" then "compatibility" and select each one to try and see if it will work for you.
Sorry I couldn't be the bearer of good news!

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
