Dell D-600 Wireless Connection/log-on problem

My daughter just left for France to study abroad. Her laptop has been working flawlessly both at her university here as well as at home.

In France at her host family's home, she has tried to logonto their wireless network, but can't.

She's running WinXP-Pro. The laptop detects the network and she has the opportunity to "connect" to it; it is secured and they have and have put in the access code. No sweat so far.

After putting in the correct access code, the password dialog is presented, BUT the P/W field is both "greyed out" as well as being already filled in. The machine will not let her change it so she can log on.

I am sure that this is simply some settings problem, but I can't figure it out and now need the Pro's advice.

Thanks for a quick reply...she's out of service!

Nouveau stove problm

I'm pretty sure your stove doesn't have anything to do with your wireless problem (unless you tried to grill your wireless router on it).

Connect to your router with a LAN cable, log on to the webGUI of your router by typing its IP address and see if you can find any indications there.

If you have any other devices, see if they can establish a connection. This way you'll know if the problem is either in your laptop or your router.

Note that hardware doesn't live forever and you might need to change it.

My daughters Dell inspiring computor no longer logs onto the Internet at home through our wireless network. It seems to have frozen onto an unidentified network from a public place and I can't seem to get...

The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router'swireless settings configured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also thewireless cards in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.

Lost the software cd for my asus wireless adaptor

Hello Greg,

Check to make sure the device drivers are installed properly, and the device is functioning correctly, and enabled by doing the following:

1. Start
2. Right Click on "My Computer"
3. Select Manage
4. in the left column of the new window that appears, select "Device Manager"

If you don't see any yellow caution signs or red "x" then your device should be ok.

Make sure your wireless radio is also turned on.

What model is the laptop?
What model is the wifi adapter?
Are both from Asus?

Linksys WRT54gs router not seen by Mac

The firmware from Linksys doesn't work. Don't waste your time. Maybe the following freeware from could help. "LSP-Fix" is a utility to repair a loss of Internet access by repairing the LSP chain by removing the entries left behind when LSP software is removed or altered by malware or spyware remover. Sometimes ZoneAlarm does the damage as well when blocking intruders. Hope it works for you.

How can I install a wireless usb adapter WG1111....

First put in the cd that came with the wireless USB adapter. Close the auto setup page(we will use windows wireless network manager which works better with windows firewall . Plug in the wireless adapter and the laptop will automatically install the driver. If for some strange reason it asks you to install new found hardware, follow the promts and install manually and select cd and the directory the WG1111 drivers are located. Press ok and wait for install. Restart the computer.

After restart the computer will come up with a caption New Wireless Networks found. Double click on the wireless Icon in the bottom left hand corner. It will open a seperate screen with all wireless connections avaliable to you. Might be 1 or more networks, depending on whether your neighbours have wireless networks. Anyway find your specific wireless network could be for example NetGear, Dlink, or my home network. Click on connect your wireless connection. Another smaller screen will appear with Key in your password twice( WEP key or WPA key)
Key in your key or password twice and apply or ok. It will connect and close screen.
Restart computer!
After restart the computer will pick up your connection automatically and your ready to go on line. If you move your mouse down to the icon with wireless network in bottom left hand corner it will show your wireless connection in a caption stating the connection name and how strogn signal is. Connection complete.
