Re: usb ports

It might be that they need a newer driver, right click on my computer and select properties on the hardware tab, select device manager. look for a tab called Universal Serial Bus Controllers, see if any of them have a yellow (!) by them if one of them does, it needs drivers, if not, try disabling the devices one by one and then restart your system. follow the steps to reinstall the devices in the add hardware wizard, and this should fix the problem. if not, it could be a hardware malfunction.

USB Port Not Recognized

it has been my experience that some devices just don't like to work on the front usb ports. try those devices on the rear usb ports and see if they work there. if they do i suggest you get an additional usb card to put on the back of the computer. depending on the age of the computer you could possibly add 2.0 or even 3.0 usb slots.

Where can I get a replacement for my 2 front usb ports on my optiplex 760..they are not working??

I've never seen 2 front USB ports that were bad. I've seen 1 that was defective because the USB device that was plugged into it was broken off. However in that case it caused the power supply to short out and prevent the computer from powering on. Here is a link to your model:
If the USB ports on the back of your computer work then the front ones should too unless there is a connector dislodged to motherboard. All USB ports use the same circuit.

Where do I plug in the usb printer cord to a compaq presario

You can generally use any USB port to support a USB device. There are minor details such as speed but the computer will generally tell you if you plug a device into a slow (USB 1.1) port when the device will work better with a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port.

The newer your computer, the more likely it is that you will have all faster ports.

I cannot get a SanDisk flashdrive to go into either of the USB ports on my new desktop computer. I am using the USB ports located on top of the computer

To test the functionality of the usb ports in front of the computer
1. Insert another flash drive or another usb device like a usb mouse on front the computer 2. If it detect the usb device that means 2 things flash drive might be bad and the front usb port is working 3. If it does not, It means that the flash drive might be bad or the usb port is not connected to the front panel of the computer 4. Try also inserting the flash drive at the back of the computer see if the usb drive is detected in all ports 5. Check the BIOS for any usb port associativity

Keyboard, mouse, front USBs,DVD recorder not working

It sound like your USB Ports is the problem. Go to the Hardware manager delete the USB Ports and then shutdown and power back up.
The system then should reinstall the USB Ports and associated drivers. If not the USB Ports were probably fried by the power outage.

USB suddenly malfunctioning on Dell TOwer

It does sound like your ports on the front might be bad. They usually connect to a seperate port on the motherboard than the rear ones, and I have seen devices short out the front ports, such as a USB music player.

You can remove the ports on the device manager, and they should come back ok, without worry. However, I doubt that is going to help the front ones. I think you have a hardware problem.

If that is the case, the easiest solution is to get a USB hub, and run a USB cable from the rear, to the front of the computer.

Flash drive ports on teh fron wont work on pc

If your system is USB 1 rather than USB 2 then some flash drives will not work. Not all usb 2 flashdrives are backwards compatible. My kids flasdrives will only work on my usb2 ports & will not work at all on my wife's computer which has the older usb 1 ports.

Usb ports not picking up memory stick

Is it just Memory Stick, or everything that you plug into USB?
Try following:
  1. plug in other USB device into ports
  2. if it does not detect any USB device on any port on your computer
  3. if both front and back USB do not work it may be taht USB is turned off in BIOS, or USB driver is corupted
  4. If you have front USBs and they just do not work there is wire connecting them to the motherboard since it may be loose, if connection is OK than they are dead.
  5. If just back USB do not work than they are dead>
