Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

Motor problems on whirlpool duet

The drive motor is locked up . The unit is only about 2years old. My question is ? previous to the motor going out, there was a metallic scraping noise that could be heard when the tub was on the spin cycle. It didn't happen every wash load, but would happen just every now and then. Could something else have caused the premature motor failure?(such as an unballanced tub or other component). Are these motors proned to fail early?

thanks in advance

I may need to clarify a few things.
First, I removed the belt and tried to turn motor pulley by hand. It took a pair of pliers with some umph to get motor to turn. scraping noises came from motor as I turned the shaft. I was able to get the large drum pully to turn with little effort, therefore I think the motor is the culprit.

second, I would like to order and replace the motor myself, but I don't want to put in a new motor if there is possibly some other problem that will only cause the 2nd motor to fail prematurely. What do you think?

    Thanks again

    Mike

Any motor can go anytime, grinding sounds like some thing stuck in drum putting stress on the motor it may well be its just the belt thats gone here you need to check further/ Make sure drum runs on own with no noise pull mains plug 1st disconnect m otor belt/ dru m should be smooth if not something could be stuck here ie Sock.....

Ok ..Sounds like the motor bearing has packed in resulting in the Jam,now did anything else cause the motor to go? perhaps the drum pulley too tight due to something in it?Also you need to be sure the faulty motor has not burned out the Electronic Speed module/this drives the motor!..I think if the drum is tight I would give the whole thing a miss as by the time you fix drum/ replace motor and possibly replace module, repair would outweigh replacement machine..Try taking it up with Whirlpool head office, you may end up paying for labour only, or free repair as goodwill gesture...

What does the code F11 mean?!

This information is taken directly from the Whirlpool trouble shooting guide we found on our Duet Sport. I quote: "The motor control unit has internal failure; repeating under or over voltage, or over current conditions." Possible Causes/Procedures 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Check wire harness connections between the drive motor and the motor control unit. And between the motor control unit and the central control unit. Check the motor and do a continuity test. 3. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 4. Check the motor control unit by by looking for operations of the drive motor. 5. Check the drive motor for powered rotations. 6. Replace the motor control unit.
As previously stated, this is quoted directly from the guide. Hope that helps.

Flashing f11

Hi

F11 is a Serial Communication Error i.e. communication between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) cannot be sent correctly. You need to
  • Check Wire Harness connectors to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check the Drive system for any worn or failed components
  • Check MCU
  • Check CCU
  • Check Motor
  • Check Wire Harness

YA, I HAVE A PROBLEM SAME AS THE OTHERS. AND JUST LIKE THE MANUAL SAYS, YOU ARE SAYING TO CHECK EVERYTHING, BUT YOU WILL NOT TELL US HOW TO CHECK IT, WHAT IT IS SUPPOSE TO SOUND AND LOOK LIKE, WHAT IS NORMAL. SO WE CAN TELL WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. I DON'T HAVE ALL THIS MONEY TO SPEND ON REPAIR MEN WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. SO WHAT SHOULD I DO. OH AND P.S. F-28 DOES SHOW UP ON THE WASHER SO IT REALLY IS A ERROR CODE.
