Both hard drives are SATA so there is no master-slave settings.

Most new HDD come with imaging software that will allow you to "clone" the old HDD and transfer the information to the new HDD. If not, you will need an imaging program ie Norton Ghost, Easeus Todo Backup (free). These will take an image of your old hard drive and place the image on the new one. There's a link to Easeus Todo below:
Free Easeus Todo
The best way to run the program is to leave the old HDD installed as the master and install the new HDD as the slave. Run the imaging program and create the image on the new HDD. Once done, remove the old HDD and place the new HDD in the #1 slot (making it the master on the #1 spot on the ribbon cable. Moving the jumper to make it the master may be needed depending on your system) Once the new HDD is the master, reboot. The PC should boot normally. From here you're free to partition the new hard drive. Once you've ensure you're operating normally, you can make the old HDD a slave and format it for normal use.
I hope this explains and answers your question. Best of luck!
Greg

Thank you John! In addition to the freeware listed above (Free Easeus Todo) your Seagate HD should come with DiscWizard. If it doesn't, here is a link to DiscWizard

Since both are SATA, just run your imaging software to clone the original. Once done, set up machine to boot from the new hard drive to ensure it's working properly. If successful, you are now free to leave it as is or switch them and format the older hard drive for more storage.

The absolutely best thing would be to connect both drives to the computer and install a fresh windows into the new drive, then you can copy your files from the old one into the new one once it is done. or you can keep them both connected.

Another way would be to clone the old drive into the 750GB drive transferring the windows and everything into the new drive.

here is a list of the cloning software available
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_disk_cloning_software

You will most likely have to purchase one of the programs to get the job done.

If you would like me to recommend one, then I would go with
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/faq/disk-clone-tool/

it costs 50usd, its a program to keep, not just a single use program, but honestly its hardly worth the 50 usd for just one computer, I would go with the re-install of windows, that doesn't cost anything.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
thanks,
ekse

Samsung HM251JI 250 GB SATA Hard Drive firmware download

I suggest reading the manual for this disk, which can be downloaded here
http://www.nodevice.com/download/user_manual/samsung+hm251ji.html
At the beginning, Q5 says:

"I am looking for a Software & Firmware (mainly about drivers) but I

found nothing.

Where I can find I want ?

We don't release any firmwares.

Because the product has been already optimized with its own

configurations.

IDE (PATA & SATA) drive does not need any drivers. You just have

to make a partition and format your drive for using.

Please make sure whether you had partitioned and formatted.

First of all, you must partition and format for recognizing the new

drive in the Windows Explorer.

Within Win98 series, please use the Fdisk.

Within Win2000 & Win-XP, please use the Disk Management.

When installing Win2000 or Win-XP, the installation process
includes the partitioning step itself." etc.

You should be able to put in almost any laptop SATA hard drive in the machine. Depending on your OS, you may have to partition the drive in order to make best use of the larger types.

I split my hard drive so my mac can get it but know my pc wont get it

You could invest in a program called MACDRIVE that allows PC's to see mac formatted drives.

Otherwise I would format it as a PC drive only using the FAT 32 sysytem that AFAIK macs can also still see.

I Can Not See My [D:] drive Icon ....sec. HD

Did you just open the hard drive and install it out of the box? If that is what you did, then the computer its self will see the hardware but vista or any other operating system for that matter wont read it without a partition hence no drive letter....download a partition program like easius partition manager or partition commander and create your partition and windows will be able to see the drive. Once windows see's the drive then you have to format it! Once its formatted then your up and running. I hope this helps, comment back and let me know...thanks

Hard Drive

You can replace it with a larger one, just make sure you buy the proper hard drive. If its and IDE hard drive, buy and IDE hard drive, if its an SATA Hard drive, buy an SATA Hard drive. also make sure after you install the new hard drive that you use the operating system cd to format the drive and to install the operating system.

Ze4325us laptop...hard drive upgrade.....

I know the original question is over a year old, but here it goes for those just tuning in. Your HP ze4325us can only recognize a hard drive that is under 137.4GB. If you try to install a hard disk larger than 137.4, your computer will start to fail over time. I would recommend a 120GB hard drive, ata-100 / ide / eide, and spinning up around 5400 or 7200 rps. It would make your task easier. If you want to go bigger, use the hard drive manufacturers disk utillities programs (check manufacturer website) to partition and format before installation. So, if you were to puchase a 160GB drive, you could partition it at 137.4GB and 22.6GB. My advice, make it easy and just find a 120GB drive. Less hassles!

SATA Drive

How large is the drive? Windows XP pre SP2 will not recognize a drive larger than 120G when loading from the cd. You will need to use something like Partition Magic to partition and format the drive into 100G partitions, install the OS (it may not see more than the first partition) and upgrade to SP2 and it will see the entire drive.

32 GB hard drive limitation

WinXP & Win2k cannot create FAT32 partitions larger than 32 GB.IF you want to use partitions larger than 32GB in WinXp then you will need to install a third party partition tool like Partition magic. Partition magic is probably the best coz i have formatted my 200GB HDD in 2 mins flat!
