This is due to screen control faulty or crt weak. Change the screen control and its related coupling resisters.

I have a new tablet, charged and protected but when I was changing contrast settings it went black and I cant get the screen to come back on past startup

Sorry about this.
Well, seeing it is a new tablet, either of two things can be done.

Your tab is booting beyond Startup but you ain't seeing it because of the contrast/black screen setting.

To confirm; step into a dark room/space and hold a flashlight very close to the screen, you'd see your tab is at its home screen already.

Anyway, you will have to default factory reset it as it is or you could attempt to navigate (while in the dark room/space and using/holding the flashlight) Swipe to open/unlock it----Settings----display and brighteness-----brightness----'move cursor up to increase brightness'. Done.

Second option with dark room/space is tedious and strenuous.

Factory/hard reset is an easy option to try.
At the same time, hold/press both the volume up key/button and the power button/key.
Follow the system prompt afterwards.

Press/hold down the volume down button/key and the power button.

Follow the system prompt thereafter to factory/hard reset your tab.

Best of luck.

Uncentered image using projector

reset the settings to factory default. is it cut off evenly, or is it uneven and shadowed? if it is the latter and you have a dlp projector, you have a collapsed light tunnel. if it is cut off evenly, go into the settings and make sure the resolution and screen size matches.

Has a shadowing problem where everything on the screen was shadowing to the right. Did basic troubleshooting techniques and found that it was due to a loose connection to the computer. You may want to check this if resetting to factory settings doesn't help.

Green shadows surrounding bright whites

finally a consumer that gives us plenty of info :)
sounds like an overdriven green tube, the only thing you can try is to find the G2/Focus block assembly, either behind front speaker grill or remove back of set and look for a black box approximately 5"X5" , this box will have 6 philips type adjustment screws(plastic) 3 are for focus, do NOT adjust these,
the other 3 are marked "screen" the center screen adjustment screw is for green, turn it VERY slowly counterclockwise while the set is running and pray that your problem dis-appears, be advised that this is a HIGH VOLTAGE device so one hand in your back pocket the other hand turns the screwdriver, if the problem does not go away you have a poor green tube, good luck, sorry I can`t give you the exact location of the G2/Focus block, manufacturers move them to different places every year.

Here is what I was able to find out about your problem from sony: This issue is usually caused by some type of nearby magnetic interference, such as unshielded stereo speakers placed too close to the TV. These spots can be small or large and will normally be red, green or blue, but sometimes appear purple or pink. They normally occur on the sides or corners of the screen, but can also appear in the middle. To resolve this issue, move any stereo speakers or other electronic devices away from the TV; a minimum of 2-3 feet is recommended. If the situation is not remedied immediately, unplug the power cord of the TV from the electrical outlet for 20-30 minutes; repeat this process one more time if the issue is not resolved the first time. If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer in your area. Hope this is helpful:)
