Question about Sumvision ICE800 Digital Media Player

1 Answer

I have a sumvision/cyclone 1TB media player and up until last week was working perfectly. Now although i can see the films/files when connected to the computer, i can not see it when it is connected to my TV. i have recently changed my TV from a Toshiba to a Samsung and wondered if this was the reason but it isn't. Can anybody please help as i have over 200 films on there and i can't watch any at the moment. It loads up OK but when you choose to view the HDD files it shows that nothing is there.

I had a similar problem with a different piece of kit, the answer is go to the options menu of your TV, there you will find the composite settings tweak those while the cyclone is plugged in and your picture will re appear.

It may be too late for you but i had just bought one of these units 1tb version, the problem i found was even though it reads .vob file ( kinda suggests DVD compatibility ) it really only means that, navigation only allows going to a DVD folder and then on to the individual .vob files.

If you know what I am talking about then you will realise it means no DVD title screen navigation! I can tell you I felt ripped off.

Another issue is that many files that played flawlessly on my old ioni media player either played with no picture but sound or sound and no picture, i have read somewhere that this machine is just a large hard drive with a media player attached and not the reverse.

Lastly I wouldn’t advise anyone to buy one because you may think well maybe there will be a firmware update to fix the problems, I downloaded the firmware zip from the maplins site and checked the properties, its was created two years ago, they have done nothing since.

Going to the sumvision website gives you no way of complaining just a link at the bottom of the page to some Chinese website.

Did I mention that although the unit ticks all the boxes for looks but the remote is very cheap and nasty as the GUI in the box.

I got a refund!

regards

I am looking at this to replace it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM4n9sLI-b8

any thoughts?

How to find internal storage on cyclone micro 3

There is a "Firmware" update to Cyclone micro 3 .This can be downloaded from Sumvision web site :-
http://www.sum-vision.co.uk/productinfo/micro3b/micro3b.asp
When downloaded copy the file on to a Memory stick or card and click the USB entry or memory card entry on the main menu, and the Cyclone will update itself .
There should now be an entry on the main menu for "internal storage"

SUMVISION CYCLONE MICRO DOES NOT SHOW ALL MOVIE FILES ON EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE

Some video formats may be incompatible with the player.
Your laptop probably has more codecs, so more compatibility.
Try a program like Video Inspector to see formats of different files.

If you are having problems with the film cutting off after 10 seconds or so; fix the avi with Divfix ++ only takes a min or so and fixed all my problems so i now run all my films through it first.
