  1. Lift the printer access door, then remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
  2. Verify that the label on the ink cartridges is intact, and the cartridges are not damaged.
  3. Verify that only KODAK branded ink cartridges are installed.
  4. Insert the ink cartridges into the printhead, then press down firmly until you hear them click into position.
  5. Close the printer access door, then make the same print.
If issue still continues:
  1. Verify that inkjet paper is loaded in the paper tray.
  2. Press and hold Cancel + Copy/Resume simultaneously until the On/Off light flashes green. The On/Off light continues to flash during the cleaning procedure.
  3. When the On/Off light glows a steady green, press and hold Scan + Copy/Resume simultaneously until the On/Off light flashes, then wait for the demo sheet to print.
If issue still continues:

the printhead for your printer is in need of replacement. Contact Kodak

I'm not quite satisfied with color and black tone. What settings would you recommend.

You do not say what exact model of printer you are using so any answer will be generic rather than specific.

Poor colour and black tone can be as a result of various factors:
1. Poor paper quality that you are printing on.
2. Poor ink or toner quality being used.
3. Use of Ink / Toner saving modes or software.
4. Worn or damaged printer components such as the fuser roll on a laser printer and other similar consumables with a limited page use life.
5. Poor quality content being printed, i.e. low quality images being printed at too high a print resolution.

first up
in a printer to get good black grey contrast etc, color is used

Printing black on paper

Some of these machines will allow you to printe a grey scale test copy.
This will readjust the fax machine back to a nominal mode.
Not knowing how old or how long the machine has been serviced, background can be caused by dirty optics somewhere in the machine.
A remanufactured drum unit can cause this type of problem, (defective unit)
Competitive toner in the toner unit can cause poor copy quality.
Reinstall the old cartrige and see if the problem changes.
Not knowing if the machine has a seperate drum unit and developer housing, it would be hard to answer anything else.

Print clarity

Check the print result by using Ink Management -> Testpage. After printing the test page, you'll get questions about the print quality, answer them and perform the cleaning after the questions. Repeat this process up to five times, which should solve the problem.

Printer has set for a while. The print quality is very poor. Black is grey, there are streaks across the page.

Take the cartridge out and shack it side to side a few times to move the toner around and reinstall it.

Greenish tint to black type

This is a dot matrix printer. The way they work is there is a print head that has a heap of little needles with flat tops on them, and they push out at high speed against the ink ribbon, and the ink ribbon is pushed against the paper to make a dot. Then the pin is retracted, spring loaded.
Pretty amazing that it can work that fast, eh!
So the only thing that can influence the ink colour on your paper is the ribbon.
Are you using original Lexmark ribbons? If so, my recommendation would be to take a sample print to where you got the printer from and get them to demonstrate the print quality of one of these printers, then compare it with yours.
Dot Matrix printers will not produce print as black or as high a quality as a laser printer, for example.
Perhaps the ink ribbons you are using have a less than top quality ink in them, and there is a bit of "bleeding" going on - it can only be the ribbon.
Another thing you can experiment with to get the best print quality is the print head gap - there will (should) be an adjustment, and getting that right will make a difference to print quality.
Hope this helps you.

Poor quality black output

There is a defect in the Imaging Unit of these printers....if you replace the imaging unit, the problem of the faded black prints go away. If you have less than 7000 prints, you can call Samsung for a warrantied replacement. The Imaging Unit is supposed to last at least 20,000 prints.

Poor Print Quality on Epson Aculaser C1100N

Sounds like the black dev unit is worn out. Easy enough to change yourself if it is out of warranty. If it is in warranty get Epson to do it for you.
