Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a Samsung RS265LABP, several days ago the freezer was left open just a crack. The next morning the freezer temp was flashing. My husband unplugged the unit and the freezer temp showed 48 degrees, after about 8 hours it was back to its regular temperature and we thought everything was okay. Then two nights ago we noticed some water on the floor that was coming from the bottom of the fridge. There is a pool of water building up under the bottom drawer in the fridge. We cannot see where the water is coming from. My husband would like to try to fix this himself. Any ideas?

Hi.

Water condensing inside the fridge is normally collected into a drain hole inside the fridge.

What happened is that temperature raising up caused a bigger amount of water flowing on top of the drain hole, and now the drain hole is clogged with debris or ice from water freezing.

The drain tray is part 1 on diagram below:

Try doing a complete defrost, if that is not enough clean drain lines and drain tray.

Regards.

try unplugging it for a day a so to let the evaporator coil defrost. When left open for long periods the evaporator coil will build too much ice blocking air flow. You might have apuddle of water under the fridge after the melt.

Never bye a samsoung refrigerator

That model has a flaw that the defrost heater is woven into the evaporator. I think you may have a 5 year sealed system warranty and if the defrost element is defective the complete sealed system evaporator will need replaced. So I believe that a complait filed to the company regarding this flaw will get their attention and may solve the cost of repair.
