Question about Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens

1 Answer

D80 "battery drained' and "F"sign when pressing release button

When pressing the shutter release button two different event occur:
1. either the battery shows drained battery even though battery is freshly charged. Camera is frozen.
2. upon pressing the release button display shows a flashing "F" and camera is frozen.
It happens randomly and with several independent users. This problem occurred with D70 and D80.
I need to turn off camera several times before I can use it again.
Nikon admits problems with suppliers but is not helpful otherwise.

Pls make sure of the following:

- You are using original Nikon batteries (generic batteries gave a similar problem to me)
- The aperture ring of your camera is correctly placed

'err' sign on display nikkon D80, and appear r 15 when shutter button is press

"rXX" is just the camera estimate of how many pictures left on memory card. As for "ERR": while camera is in "On" position, take out battery and hold shutter button approximately 30 seconds. Turn camera "off, replace battery and turn "On" again. If thre is a hardware reset button (check manual carefully) while camera is "On" use that reset button/

"ERR" is camera error. Two items to try:1/ remove battery while camera is ON while waiting for approx 30 seconds, press and hold the shutter release, insert battery and give it a go. 2/ if there is a camera hardware reset button try that with camera ON. There may be a firmware update on Nikon web site, but if you cannot read the memory card, you cannot install it.

Pull all the batteries, wait 30 seconds, put in a completely different card, put batteries back in and turn on and format the card--sometimes works

I have a D80 since 2 years and since last 1 week have been getting the 'Err' message. Initially, after referring to the manual & pressing the shutter release button, the camera responded only ONCE. ...

Hi sandeepbhat2, On page 129 of the D80 manual is the factory reset switch. Look on the left side of the camera there is the terminal cover, inside below the USB connector is a small reset button. Give that a try. If still it does not work you should call Nikon.

I have a d 80 nikon and encounter following problem. when i press the shutter-release button i am getting following message error 07. I then pressed again the shutter release button. The same error...

I dont think this is actually an error but,
the "07 is just telling you that the camera is in Raw shooting mode and in that mode you can shoot 7 shots one after the other (with continuous shooting mode on) before the buffer gets full.

See page 140 of the manual and also read about RAW mode settings on your camera.

Cheange the setting from RAW and try taking a pic to see that your "error" goes away.

Error blink in place of shutter indicator

I AM SAGHA REPAIRER FROM MUMBAI I THINK THERE ARE PLENTY OF REASONS SHOWING ERR ON TOP DISPLAY BUT IF ERR IS SHOWING JUST BY TOUCHING THE SHUTTER RELEASE BUTTON THEN THE MAIN BOARD IS DEFECTIVE.IF ANY MECHANICAL ACTION OCCURS AFTER PRESSING SHUTTER RELEASE BUTTON AND THEN ERR APPEARS THEN THE FAULT COULD BE OF SHUTTER & APERTURE BLOCK.I THINK ALL THESE SOLUTIONS ARE FOR EXPERTS AND NOT FOR GENERAL USERS IF ANYBODY FINDS THEM USEFUL LET ME KNOW & ALL THESE ARE BASED ON MY OBSERVATION ABOUT FAULTY CAMERAS.

If the lighting is low and shutter speed is set for a long period of time its the function of the camera taking the picture. If it is a malfunction of the shutter take it in for cleaning you might have foriegn material stuck in your shutter mechanism

Nikon - D 80 Camera Body

I think I know what you mean. The control panel light can be programmed in menu. If you want to illuminate the lcd display push the on/off button all the way to the right and hold for as long as you need to. The dial shows 'off'; 'on' and then if you look closely you will see a small bulb symbol.

The light goes off when you activate the shutter functions. You can set this not to happen if you use 'custom settings' via the menu and set 'ilumination' to 'on'. It will drain the battery faster but it's good if you are working without much light.

pg102 of the manual deals with formatting.

Go to 'set up menu' (the tool symbol). select 'format memory card' select yes and then confirm.

Good luck

Nikon d80

Similar problem here .. on a D40. I'm suspecting the shutter release button (after looking for lots of dependencies - like AF sensor malfunction, time from power up, auto-off timer settings..) .. since it does fire if I press the button at an angle. I was using the switch off and on technique for a while but now feel that that worked only because I jab at the button at a slightly different angle after operating the power button with the same finger.
