Attaching stereo amp to Dell PC

I am trying to get my Stereo amp to work through my PC's sound card. It worked fine on my old PC but doesn't work on my new Dell. I have tried to attach the 3.5mm jack into all six coloured sockets but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

You might need to change to output setting on your sound card controller to a 2 speaker setup in stead of any other setting that it might be set to and make sure that you plug the jack into the green one. Also, you might want to turn the volume up on the outputs, in case it is set too low.

How do I find out what specs my sound card has? have a Dell lattitude 6400 and am considering buying software which requires Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 or equivalent sound card supporting 16-bit...

Your laptop has a High Definition integrated sound card which will do just fine for low-to mid end recording. You'll just need to hook up your audio source to the Microphone input on your laptop using a standard DIN plug, just like the one used for headphones. Usually the plug is a stereo input so you can have full stereo recording using the Microphone input.

No sound on my pc

Go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices
Ensure that sound card is the default playback and default recording device.
Also, if this is a Dimension 5100, then there is a possibility that the system has a upgrade sound card installed in a PCI expansion slot (Below the video card)
If the system has an expansion card, (Soundblaster) then the integrated on-board audio should be disabled in the BIOS (If integrated is on and an expansion card is installed, you get a conflict and no sound) Normally, if the system has an expansion card, the ports are covered with a black plastic cover. If the BIOS defaults are ever reset, then onboard audio needs to be disabled again.

2000 dodge durango stereo worked fine then

Some factory radios have external amplifiers for the sound. I would check all the fuses in the vehicle and see if one is blown. That would be my guess. When the main was replaced, it might have sent a strong enough current and popped a fuse to your amplifier.

CD's won't play on Home & Car stereo after Burning

I may add alot of times older equipment has a hard time reading burned cd's because when ever burning cd's the pits that are burnt into the cd are shallow. The faster the cd burns the more shallow it is... one thing you can try to do is burn at 2x in the WAV format cause it most diffenately will not read mp3 format being that old equipment. You may get lucky burning at 2x because the pits that it burns in the cdrom will be deeper. As the clarification said do use CD-R's. If this doesn't work at 2x chances are that equipment is just not going to be able to read a burnt cd period. Good Luck!!! I hope this works for you!!!

Distorted sound.

Your turntable is a preamp. Your amplifier might be going bad. did you connect it into phono? dont connect it into the cd or dvd input because those wont work.
