I went to GE's website and found the solution there. Just enter "problem detected service" in the search bar and use the result for the washer - it's the same diagnostic tool. Follow the instructions and you're good to go.

Maytag Neptune MDE5500AYW Dryer wont start

This dryer has 2 fuses, one behind the filter housing under a shield and another on the heater element. To get to them you first have to remove the door and then that will allow for the goalpost shaped front to come off. Then you can remove the hooks and lift the top. Then the front glide panel can be removed then the drum and then you can access and clean the innards.

Kenmore HE5 dryer won't start

Several different problems could prevent your dryer from running. Make sure that the door is firmly closed and hold down the start button for a couple of seconds to start the dryer. If you hear a click from the control board then the door switch and the control board are likely okay. You could have a blown thermal fuse or a broken belt in the dryer. To check these components, unplug the dryer and remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the first image below. With this panel removed, you can tell whether the drive belt is broken. If the drive belt is okay, I recommend checking the thermal fuse. This fuse is located on the blower housing as shown in the second image below. It will have light blue wires attached. To test the fuse, remove one wire and measure the resistance across the leads of the fuse with a volt/ohm meter. You should measure near zero ohms of resistance (continuity). If you measure infinite resistance, then the fuse is blown and will need to be replaced. You can verify that this is your failure by taping the contacts of the light blue wires together with electrical tape to "bypass" the thermal fuse. Reassemble the dryer and see if the motor runs with this fuse bypassed. If it does, then this verifies that the blown thermal fuse prevented the dryer from running and that this was the only failure. NOTE: Do not continue to run the dryer beyond this brief test with the thermal fuse bypassed. This component must be replaced. It is an important safety feature of the dryer.

You can order a new thermal fuse from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number is 3392519.

Do not think yet of purchasing new dryer nor calling a service person as this may be a simple problem and you can fix it yourself. You may only need to replace some components as this type of problem is usually caused by a blown thermal fuse which is wired in series with the motor. When it blows, power to the motor is terminated causing the motor not to run. No dryer function works then when the motor cannot run.

The thermal fuse is located on the blower housing along with the cycling thermostat. Disconnect power then access and bypass the thermal fuse. The blower housing is located on the front left bottom of the dryer cabinet for the dryers with lint filter on the front or at the rear left bottom if the lint filter is located on the top of the cabinet.

Bypass the thermal fuse by disconnecting the wires and connecting them together. Insulate the connection properly and plug the dryer back in. The thermal fuse is indeed blown and needs to be replaced including the cycling thermostat if the dryer starts. NEVER use the dryer with the thermal fuse bypassed due to fire hazards. The thermal fuse and the cycling thermostat costs about $35.

Let us know if the problem is not addressed above or if you need further advice but indicate the exact model number of the machine for further advice.

I pushed the start button on the dryer it turned on but didnot st

The instant you press the button on the console, the motor should start. When it starts a mechanism in the motor operates a switch mounted on the motor (provided w/new motor). That makes a circuit which replaces the action of your finger holding the button by creating a bypass circuit. This bypass circuit takes the start switch completely out of the circuit and keeps the motor running.

Your motor is not making this bypass circuit and needs to be replaced.

Dryer won't heat up and it won't shut off automatically

The dryer timer advances when the temperature sensor hits a preset level (or the moisture sensor detects the clothes are dry if your unit is so equipped). If your dryer is not heating up - it is normal for the timer not to advance. Check the easiest things first - assuming this is an electric dryer, make sure that both sides to the circuit breaker are not tripped. Electric dryers use 220 volts for heating, but only utilize one pole of this (110 volts) to run the motor. A dryer can "run" without heating if one pole of the 220 volt circuit is blown. Next, check your heating element. A visual inspection is easiest, but you can check with an ohmmeter (make sure the unit is unplugged). If the element is good, I would next check the limit thermostat (you could temporarily bypass as a test - but DO NOT run it that way as this is a crucial safety feature). Another culprit is the centrifugal switch on the motor. This switch only allows power to the element if the motor is running - but if the switch goes bad - no heat. Always - always -always - make sure your vents are clean and flowing freely - a restricted vent is a fire hazard and leads to overheating which is likely what caused the components to fail in the first place....

If none of these are out - write back and I will try to give you more ideas...

Touch screen

As a thought you may want to re-initiate the electronics. Don't know if this can help but it might:

It's called "Field Service Mode"
1. Press the POWER key to turn the dryer on.
2. Press HELP. The main help screen is displayed.
3. Press and hold MY CYCLES and BACK simultaneously for 3 seconds. Press EXIT to return to the HOME screen.
This takes you through a processes of initializing the touch screen. I have a different problem on my Harmony dryer but I've used this to check diagnositcs.
