Somehow the MP3 has becomed write-protected and I can't delite anying on it, and I can't formate it. what do I do? (itss a 2GB edia player with radio Model: MP714AF) 20090729231

First, does your player have internal memory or is it one of those in which you put a memory card? If it's of the second kind, get the card out and see if the lock switch is pulled down. If so, pull it up and that should solve your problem.

If it has internal memory... Have you tried formatting using the device's system or your computer? You should try both. If both fail, check the manual and see if there is any way to completely reset the device.

Maybe some file you put on it has a "read-only" attribute, check that, too, on your PC.

My screen went black while I was listening and I had about 1/2 power left in my battery

We need your model # and manufacturer name to be of maximum assistance. Here's my generic fix:
Disconnect the player from the PC, and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Hold in the volume + button on the mp3 player, and reconnect the player to your pc while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the volume + for 10-15 seconds until a "Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up. It should recover your device if there isn't anything internally wrong with the player. Warning: this procedure will result in your songs being erased off the player, so they will have to be reloaded.

Proposed solution

Creative Jukebox 3
  1. Remove the battery cover
  2. Partially remove the battery
  3. Press and hold STOP button
  4. Slide the battery back into position - the unit should power on.
  5. When the CREATIVE logo appears on the display, release the STOP button then immediately press and release the PLAY button.
  6. The following options will appear on the display:
  • Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk)
  • Format All (Formats the players hard disk - Note: all contents will be lost)
  • Reload Firmware (Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Note: Reloading your OS, will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen. Select this option ONLY if you have access to a PC and you have downloaded the necessary firmware to install.)
  • Reboot (Reboots the device).

Problem wen i pressed reset button

· Make sure you have media player 11
· If you can, the best test is to try your player with another PC, to see if you still have the problem. This localises whether the problem is with the PC (most likely the USB) or the player. See the link below (search on "connection problems") for a lot more troubleshooting on this.

try downloading the MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?

Firmware not reloading

Take out the battery, press and hold the ON switch and reinsert the battery. Hold the ON switch until the recovery menu appears shortly after the Creative Logo disappears. Selection option 3, which is to reload the firmware. Keep in mind that doing so will delete everything on the player.
