I would recommend using DivX, its a free software and DvDrip player in all formats. just go to DivX.com and download it for free. it should work an enormous amount better than Roxio.

Did you move up to Windows 8.1 from another version of Windows? Some applications developed for older OS will not work with the current version of Windows. With that said, you may be required to move up to Roxio's Creative version now available on line.

How to burn dvds

How to burn a DVD-Video Disc with Nero Burning ROM /> /> /> Alright, I know that many of you may say that there are plenty of DVD burning progs out there and that if I do a guide like this I should cover all of them. But I only got Nero and many users are asking me about how to burn a DVD-Video with Nero, so that's why Nero is the one for the guide.
This guide is supposed to be used by people that have created the compressed DVD files using DVD Shrink and now they don't know what to do with them or everyone that wants to see how to create a DVD-Video. Remember that for the DVD Decrypter guide you don't need Nero, as DVD Decrypter can burn the ISO file itself. Anyway before start reading this guide keep in mind that it is for use with DVD Shrink or other program that creates .IFO and .VOB files. Don't use it to burn files or mp3 in your DVD, for this you need to select a DVD-ISO disc.
Of course, Nero Burning ROM is a commercial program and we don't have it available for download. Instead you can get a trial version here.

/> /> First of all I make clear that I use version 6. If you have an older version that supports DVD (I think all the versions after 5.5.x.x) then the process is the same. Please make sure you start Nero Buring ROM I show here and NOT the Nero SmartStart. /> /> The new complication comes up. If you see a Wizard close it (there must be a button down right which says Close Wizard or something). Open the pull-down menu I show and select DVD.
NOTE: If there is no pull-down menu then your version does not support DVD.
/> /> Select DVD-Video (1) from the list. Then just make sure the settings (2) are the same as shown here. Then click on the Label tab. /> /> Here just put the label that you want your DVD to have. (It's the name that you see before your drive's letter every time you go to My Computer). After that click New. /> /> At the left of your screen you see the folders of the DVD we are going to burn. Notice the VIDEO_TS folder is red. Double click to open the VIDEO_TS folder. /> /> At the right of your screen you can see your hard drive. Browse to the folder where you have your DVD files (the files that DVD Shrink created). /> /> Select all the files. I repeat: ALL the files. /> /> Now drag and drop ALL the files you selected at the step before into the VIDEO_TS folder we opened before at your left.
IMPORTANT: People keep asking me that. Yes you put ALL the files DVD Shrink or other program created into the VIDEO_TS folder. The AUDIO_TS folder remains empty.
/> /> This is how Nero should look after all this. Note that the bat at the bottom should be all blue, or with just a little yellow where it finishes. Now click the burn icon that I show with the arrow. /> /> Here select just Write. Put the write speed for your media (for slower media like here, Nero reduces the speed from 4x to 2x, nothing to worry about) and finally click Burn!
Wait for it to finish and you will have a very nice DVD-Video disc!

My asus dvd writer does not make dvd video which play on dvd player

If you're talking about making "Home Video" into playable DVDs it's not because there's necessarily a problem with your DVD-Burner. It's most likely because your home videos are being recorded as .AVI format files. There are some other file formats it could be, but it all boils down to the same problem: the DVDs you make will only play in computers or on the rare chance that you come across a DVD player that plays those formats. The best way to remedy this situation is to buy a program that will convert the files from .AVI to DVD. There are several to choose from. Roxio reportedly has software\programs that will do this. I'm sure that Nero does too. Both companies produce several different versions of "Burning Software" do your research and be sure you buy one that will convert the files for you. There is another one that I've personally used to convert the files and burn the DVDs for me. It's "I'm Too AVI-to-DVD". I know that is an odd name for a program, but it's straight forward in what it's function is. When I used this program to convert the file formats for me and burn the DVDs it literally took several hours to convert and burn about 5GB of video for me. I don't know if Roxio or Nero would be able to do it faster than that. converting file formats can be a lengthy process.

I am all new to burning cds ,i have a verry capable computer, brand new, how do i take the video from the small disc, from my cam. corder, and put it on a large one to share with all. when i put it in the...

I assume that you know how to transfer a file from your camcoder to the computer. Save your video files into a folder.
To author (create) a DVD or a VCD you need a CD burning program like "Nero burning ROM" or Roxy or any such. I assume that you have one installed. If not, you can start with a trial version. Download a trial version. Install it.
Open the program you have installed. On the first window that pops up you may have a few options like create a data CD, copy a CD, Create a Video CD or some other wording which means that. If you are planning to create a video CD, click on New Video CD. Like wise, for new Video DVD click the button that gives such an option.
It will open a pop up with 3 sub windows. One will look like your program manager or my computer. On the right hand side you will will see the files in a particular folder.
click and drag the necessary video files from this section to the bottom window. Now you will see that the burn button became active. Click burn. There may be a few questions the computer will ask you. click yes or accept for the time being and get the CD to finish writing.
If you have 2 drives, put the master in one drive and the Slave (new blank disk in the writer).
If you have only one one drive, the computer will create an image in the hard disk and then pops out the master. At this time put new blank CD and close the tray. Wait till it finish.
It would be a good idea to get a rewritable to practice. once you understand what you can do better, you can use standard burn once CD's.

DVD+-RW plays DVD video without sound

if you did not install the wires to the motherboard ( a small set of wires- I think it's 4-pin) it will not play the sound- ( that's if it requires that wire)
you can also uninstall it in device manager, restart and let windows re-install it again because software may have overwritten some important files-

finally the software that plays the dvd may be buggy in that it mutes the sound- check the toggle (it may be on mute on the screen) I always uninstall it and use interactual dvd player that comes with universal dvd's ( like the Bourne moveis next to me right now)

for stand alone software- I prefer Nero as Roxio overwrites everything- Nero is friendly- playing dvd's , burning etc...

Hope it works for you
