Thank you for this. When I right click on the volume the symbol that used to be there for the HDMI sound has been deleted. Is there anyway of reinstalling this device as a sound device?

Click On Control Panel>Hardware & Sound>Playback Tab>Select the HDMI device as your default audio device.
If the HDMI device is not listed uninstall the drivers for audio and video from device manager.
Press the Windows logo key + R key to open RUN window and type "devmgmt.msc" without quotes. Then, click to expand Sound Video and Game Controllers category. After that, uninstall the listed driver by right clicking and selecting the uninstall option. Now, reinstall the original drivers from the Sony esupport drivers page and also install any driver updates available for HDMI under Audio and Video drivers. Also check for any HDMI drivers or Updates in the Event Services update or Power management update.
Restart the computer after installing the drivers and updates.

There a few options you can check: first of all, try to hook an audio cable to the TV. Some laptops do not support hdmi as audio output.
also, I would try to check if your hdmi audio device is set in your audio controls. Appaarently, in most cases the laptop speakers are playing by default, which means you will have to set the hdmi audio yourself. Right click on the volume control icon in your desktop (minimized icons, to your right), then go to playback devices (depends on your windows of course), then check if the hdmi is active or not.

Try to do the following- go to "start"->"control panel" and then look for a "sound" folder. See if you can find the hdmi sound.

If not, I would try to go to hardware- add a device (vista and windows 7) and then look for any hardware not installed yet. I would first try to let the computer identify the device, but if that doesn't help, download and install the device drivers. If you are experiencing difficulties in locating a driver, let me know and I'll try to find it.

When using this type of adapter you only feed video into the TV/monitor
you have to use a separate set of RCA audio wires to feed the audio into your tv.

Use a HDMI cable for all signals. The cable you may be using may not be carrying a sound signal with it. HDMI cable will work for both sound and picture.

I hooked up my HDTV with a HDMI cable but when I used the Audio L/R cables, I can't get any sound. I can get sound if I hook up the TV with regular cables but then I don't get the HDTV picture. Any...

You may have to go into the TV setup menu and change a setting for Sound (or Audio) that tells the TV which input to use (HDMI or component) for sound. Usually the HDMI connection will work automatically but if you connect cables to Audio L/R that may override the HDMI sound input.

I have a hdmi input and i dont hear sounds

HDMI definitely carries sound and video. That is what makes it so useful. One cable does it all. If you have HDMI input on your TV and you are trying to play video and sound through your laptop, you have to hook up the cable, select HDMI or digital sound from your computer sound settings and then re-start your computer (while attached to the TV0. Good luck.

NO SOUND WHEN USING HDMI FROM PC TO HDTV (RUNNING VISTA)

When using an HDMI to DVI cable their is no audio that comes through that cable. Even if you use HDMI to HDMI most computers only have video output from HDMI. You will have to use a seperate audio cable for you to be able to get the sound to work. Depending on the output you have on your laptop you may have to resort to hooking up a pair of speakers to the headphone jack.

Hope this helps.

How can i get the surround sound to work.

You need to get an HDMI cable going from your Cable Box to the Surround Sound system. If you are low on HDMI ports, you can RGB cables for Video.

Your quote: " I have a HDMI cable plugged into the TV and the Cable box." move that cable to Surround Sound and Cable Box, and use RGB cable or HDMI to go from Cable box to TV!

If your Surround Sound has no HDMI, use a Fibre Optic to go Cable to Surround. It will work Great!

Good Luck!

No play back from HDTV to threater system

Do you have set-top-box or antenna-cable directly to TV?
You have connected TV with received via HDMI, but that won't work in this direction - TV has HDMI INput only, not output.
You can use HDMI to connect HDMI-out on DVD player for example to HDMI-in on receiver and HDMI-out of receiver to HDMI-in on TV.
But to get sound from TV to the receiver, use spdif optical or coax cable if TV supports that - this way you will get surround sound.
But also your connection via analog white/red RCA plugs should work, but only for stereo sound.

Dude, the hdmi is just for the video signal, you'll have to use a separate audio cable to get sound from the integrated speakers.

TV Sound

First lets determine where the sound is missing. What are you using for sound. RCA jacks? HDMI cable? If you are using the HDMI cable, please make sure the correct sound is selected in the Cable box. In New York Cable Box, The HDMI sound has to be selected in order to get sound using the HDMI cable. Hoping that all other settings are ok, You may need a new signal board. Part Number BN94-00629R. Average Cost $176.14
