Faulty GCE5006DVDK Portable DVD player - Message "Wrong Disc"

I have a GCE5006DVDK in car DVD player which it seems has gone faulty. When I try to play a DVD after some moments, I receive a message "Wrong Disc".
I am living at Cork in Ireland. Do you know if there is a repair facility for this type of unit in Ireland or where I could get it repaired in UK ?

I had the same problem I used a camera brush and a burst of air which seemed to do the trick. It is working now, seems it was the DVD lens, thanks.

Why do i get message "wrong disc"

Check it with an other known good disc. If this message appears with that disc so; the laser pickup unit to your player is faulty; and should be replaced. Contact any service technician.

Your laser head assembly has gone faulty. this is very common. Either repair or replace is only option.

When a disc is put in it does not play, just get a "no disc" message

Try cleaning the dvd player lens with a dvd disk cleaner , if that fails then the dvd lens is faulty.

Portable dvd player keeps saying bad disc

try cleaning the lens with a lens cleaner cd, if this doesn't work the lens itself is scratched or faulty and you will need to buy another dvd player

Coby TF-DVD7100 7" portable flat screen...keep getting "Wrong Disc" Error

I have seen this problem on several Yamada & Xoro brand DVD players. If you remove the lid after powering down with the disc tray closed and a disc in it you may well find the ribbon cable to the read head is rubbing on the disc. The ribbon cable is held to the base of the box by a sticky pad under a 45 degree bend in it and a piece of sticky tape !!!. Power up unit, open disk tray, power it down, retape cable to base securely with small strips of duct or gaffer tape (using tweezers helps) and hey presto it will work again. The cable rubbing slows the disk spin speed hence "data read error" unit assumes "bad/faulty/wrong type of disk". All that technology screwed up by using a cheap bit of tape in the factory assembly, amazing eh !.

My portable dvd says "wrong disc"

Your problem is either the laser Diode has faulted OR perhaps the Lens is "Dirty" it can be cleaned with a special "Cleaning Disk" but I would think unfortunately that the laser assembly has gone faulty, a common problem unfortunately :(

DVD disc is not recognised

itsmylife70, hello.

Two things, Laser gone low and can't read dvd. Just try cleaning the collimating lens with a cotton swab and glass cleaner. gently wet one end and dry residue with the other end.
The other thing is could be just a mutilated loom (flex) cable connecting the laser from the main pcb board. Laser is most likely gone bad.

Good luck.
