Battery life I want to lengthen the battery life by turning off TFT as the spec in the owner's manual say the battery lasts up to 4 hours without TFT. I cannot, however, figure out how to turn off the TFT.

If it has an exterrnal video plug, like an RCA jack you see on the back of a VCR, it means that when you close the screen(which is the TFT), it turns off, but the video will continue to play out of the external jack.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Mobile phone battery not holding charge and going flat to quick

hi, now this is a very common problem the only thing you can try is to let the battery go totally flat and keep switching it on untill the phone wont even light up.
Then what you need to do is give it a full charge for at least 8 hours this may lengthen the time your battery takes to go flat.

Now what the shop should have told you and didnt and what they should tell you in the owner's manual and dont is that once a month you are supposed to let the battery go totally flat and then do full recharge.
Doing this will ensure you get maximum time out of the battery and it makes the battery last at lot longer before you need to replace the battery.

If after doing this your battery only last an hour or two then the chances are the battery needs replacing so if you do this just remember to let it go flat at least once a month as the battery never does a full charge due to the fact that the battery never goes totally flat so this then causes bad cells in the battery so follow those rules and your battery will last longer than normal

I have a brand new laptop with an 8 hour battery that only last 3-4 hours. What all do I need to turn off?

Thank you for choosing FixYa!

Regarding this concern of yours with your battery, I would like you to understand that the 8hr time frame is basically the stand-by time for your computer turned ON but doing nothing. Now, if you base the battery's performance while you're using the machine, it can only run at most 4-6 hours depending on the application you are using, the resources that the application utilizes, and the running application required by the computer to run. It means that you really won't be able to max out your battery's 8hr capacity if you're using the computer on a regular basis.

The best practice though, is that you keep the battery reach at least 1% of power before charging the laptop to maintain and lengthen the battery's life.

Have a good one still. Take care!

It only last for 1 hour and a half . according to the store this is normal because my processor is AMD athlon and 2 gig memory. i thought 6 cell batteries run for abt 3 hours. is there a compatible battery...

The lithium iron battery for this conputer is 4000 mA/hrs. or 4 Ampere hours. That means that with a draw of 1 Ampere the computer would be useable off the battery for 4 hours. Since you can't run off the battery below a certain voltage you can deduct 20% leaving a battery life of a little over three hours.

My Dell Inspiron 1520 seems to use a lot of battery power, even when the lid is closed, and nothing is running. Is there any way to save battery power, without going into standby mode, or turning off the...

How long does your battery usually last? If it lasts 2 hours or more, that's normal for a notebook computer. The standby mode and turning off of hard drives is what notebooks are designed to do to give you more battery life. If you have to have it on and available all the time without going into standy mode, you'll need to get used to charging it every couple of hours. If you want to get more battery life, try the following options:
1) have the display turned off when not in use (this setting can be changed where you set up your screensaver)
2) turn off the wireless function (if available) when not in use
3) have the computer go to standby mode after 10 or 15 minutes of inactivity.
4) lower the brightness of your display

All of the above assumes that you're getting a decent charge and can use the notebook unplugged for 2 hours or more. Naturally, over time, notebook batteries wear down and don't hold a charge as well as they once did. If your notebook is a few years old and you're only getting an hour or so on a full battery, then it is probably time to invest in a new battery. If your notebook is new and you are getting this short battery life, contact Dell for a replacement battery as yours may be defective.

One last thing about notebook batteries. They are designed to be charged up and run down. If you leave your computer plugged in to a/c power all the time while you are using your computer, this greatly speeds up the wearing down of the battery. Whenever possible, you should fully charge your battery and then run the battery down to 10% or less before plugging it back in. This ensures that you get the most battery life on a consistent basis.

Hope this help. Please take a moment to rate the solution. Thanks.
