SOURCE: firmware upgrade
Only 2 things to try
1. try formatting the player again
2. try upgrading the firmware again
if no luck then it will have to be returned for fixing. There are warnings about not completing the upgrade process. Don't mention the above when returning it for repair under warranty.

I had the same issue. You probably have your unit connected with the newer cables that are red, blue and green. These are more sophisticated and offer better quality for the DVD portion. However, they will not carry the video for the VCR, only the audio.
You need to connect a *yellow* Video Out cable from your DVD/VCR to the Video In on your TV, this should carry the video for the VCR! Hope this helps!

Ok, Here is a list that you will have to filter threw. the first is the Magnavox/Phillips codes.
Here are the Phillips codes. They bought out Magnavox and most of the codes exist under both name brands.
130 226 330 430 434 439 536 631 734 738 934 937
One of the above codes should work.

As far as I know, it should work if you use a Div x codec, you then need to load it via pc and convert to Div X. The player will the promp route. All you do is press enter and select from the list.
