I removed my cf card and reinserted and it said cf error. i tried it a few more times, still nothing. i looked inside the camera where the brass prongs are and noticed two were bent over tried to straighten and they broke. any advice or cost figure to be repaired?

Advice: If you can, sell that and upgrade to the XTi or XT1 version of the Rebel. Now they use SD cards which doesn't have the prongs to break off. Also SD is more of the major memory card that is compatible with electronics. Otherwise, get a point and shoot. They are cheap and also use SD cards.
Repair cost: 2 Prongs replacement = All the prongs replacements. I'm not sure if they have that type in stock anymore. My guess is ranging from 60-100ish USD. Usually they will check to see what is the problem and bill you for their labor and parts.

Try reformatting the card in a computer and reinserting. Also try a different CF card in the camera. IF YOU LIKE WHAT I WROTE PLEASE VOTE FOR ME.

Take a look inside your camera's CF card slot. I suspect that you may have a bent pin in there. If so, you may elect professional repair (likely more than you'd be willing to pay), or you might want to try the following.
Remove batteries and card. Use a small/skinny jeweler's flat screwdriver to bend the pin back as close as possible. The jeweler's screwdrivers that you see at the dollar store will work fine. Another tool that I sometimes use is a stiff wire with a bent hook on the end to get very flattened pins started. Take your time and use as much patience as you can muster (take a breather in between if needed). Just keep nudging it upward/straighter a "tiny bit at a time". Whatever you do, don't try to unbend it with one push/nudge, you won't be able to do it.
It doesn't have to be perfect, just as close as you can get it. When it's the best that you can get it, take your flash card and "SLOWLY" insert it. The card itself should fine-align the pin. Remove the card, and verify that the pin is still straightened. If so, reinsert the card and try it out.

did you delete all card files on your pc?
if so, camera will not function properly. Try formating the cf card on your computer and format it again inside JVC camera,
try inserting a normal cf card(should work) in order to find if you have a faulty cf card

Well there is a known problem witht eh CF memory design, i hope this is not your problem but it may be. Take your camera into a well lit area or get a small flash light. Open the memory door and peek down inside the camera and look at the pins inside the camera. Are they all uniform? does any look bent or out of place? there should be 2 uniform rows no pins should be missing or out of place. If they are you have a connection problem. This is one of the issues with this memory format and its why they have changed the design to SD. This is common with people who remove the cards alot and use a reader over time the card and the slot becomes warn and its very easy to bend pins because the card isnt sliding in smooth.
If this is your problem (a few bent pins) you may have to take it in for service or try and fix it yourself. Ive read about people using a mechanical pencil. Remove the lead and the pin slips right into the top and you can carefuly move it back.
