Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

RCA F19424 there was no picture and the sound worked. I figured I'd change the caps and I went to plug it in and it sounds like the caps are charging but the TV never turns on.

Thanks I will look into that when I can stop being a chicken and discharge the darn thing. The TV wasn't even turning on after the caps. You could hear it charge up but it never really finishes charging. I didn't use any caps that were not good replacements so I don't know why its not even turing on now.

The caps were not the problem to begin with. Can you still get audio? If so....Find the Horizontal output transistor....next to that is a 100 ohm 1/2 watt resistor and next to that is a small coil.....Unsolder the coil and clean the two ends of the coil and the area on the board,,,and under the board where the coil was. These solder connections on the board are not creating a good ground as the glue, is acting as an insulator!

You may have inserted a cap using wrong polarity [could swell up or pop] or wrong microfarad. You will have to open and see. It is always good to document each step you take when replacing parts. The other thing I want to ask, does this tv have a vcr? The heads on the vcr can be so dirty, that you will have audio and no video. On the otherhand you have video with cable or satelite if this was the case.

Then proceed and see if you can find the cap you installed. The ones to worry about are the 160v 100mf to 200v 100mf and the 200v to 250v 470mf caps! They will slowly drain in a week or two.

2000 rca home theater system. The sound stopped working. Can I use/get an external speaker/sound system and plug that into the audio output? The picture is perfect, hate to get rid of it.

I would certainly try it!
It may or may not work depending upon what went bad in the sound part of the TV. Most likely it will work because the majority of the sound failures are in the power circuitry.
Just be very careful in unboxing the sound system, you may end up having to take it back if it doesn't work.
Any sound system that includes as inputs "Auxiliary Audio" should work. (2 RCA jacks) Your TV may have a surround sound capability, but you'll have to check your manual.

RCA 52 INCH D52W20B WON'T COME ON

A 1995 60 inch rca good picture and sound. Then it started a cracking noise and a hissing sound, then the picture went blurry. then it was nice picture and sound, then it died. took the back off and turned out the lights. Plugged the tv in and out from the wall socket and there was a sparking noise and a small arc when i plugged it in and out a few times ,at the part that the power plug plugs into. The white part that is beside the white power plug part has thick red wire coming out of it and goes into another plug that has more red wires in it. but the big white part beside the power plug part looks burnt and has black powder on it. that part is probably the problem but maybe not, what it the name of that part and how much would it cost and is it plugged in or soldered.

TV, RCA MOD # F19424, CTC 203U5, Picture blury

Focus and Screen. The focus control may help, just like focusing a set of binoculars or an old camera. Watch the picture on the TV, using a mirror can help and make an adjustment until the picture is as clear as you can get it. If it still is not clear it may mean that your picture tube is weak.
If you can avoid it, don't touch the Screen control. If you have, let me know and I can advise you on the proper way to adjust it.
