Ink system failure

I have an HP Photosmart 8250 and I recently had to change the yellow ink cartridge. Well, ever since then, I get the message "Ink System Failure, refer to printer documentation". ERROR 0xc18a0001. Then it tells me to turn the printer off and on .. but it still doesn't work.

i have a problem with the hp photosmart 8230! im also getting the error message saying "ink system failure" i tried the tricks that worked for the other hp models but no luck, any ideas???

    Another thing,
Soluvisitor might be right, It can be a problem that shows on the printer, when it detect damaged, or other Ink cartridges that the ones you should use with that printer.

First can you tell me if you are using HP original inks or aftermarket ones? If you are using after market ones then the cartridges are the problem.

If on the other hand you are using genuine HP inks then you need to follow HP's recomendations and install the update patch..

Are you using HP original inks???

  • Soulvisitor
    Soulvisitor Jan 10, 2008

I fix these under warranty, The first thing I do is replace any inferior or old inks with correct acticle, this solves 70% of problem

Then I install update patch to firmware.

The only other thing I do is remove all carts, power up machine, reinsert cartridges.

With the 2 % of machines that fail, It is due to contaminated ink blocking the ink system, HP dont stock parts for this model, they replace whole unit.

    Omad.

Please let me know if what inks you have in this machine, If you have sucessfully installed the patch and you are using aftermarket inks then you will need to replace them with new HP ones.

I can't help you any further without more infomation.

    Cheers S.

I take it that you are in fact using non gen, hence no responce to question and that is your problem. REPLACE INK with Genuine products designed for your machine.

Have you installed a new cartridge or tried the old one that worked to see if the new cartridge you have was bad out of the box?

HP 8250 Photosmart printer that displays "system ink failure"

Try changing the ink cartridges.

If you installed the "HP Support Toolkit" software from the CD-ROM that came with the printer, use this Toolkit to "run a cleaning cycle".
It can print a "test" page, to show you which colours _do_ work, and which do _not_ work.

If all else fails, then find a qualified printer technician.

Ink system failure. How do I reset a hp 8250 printer?

Turn off the machine using the power button, unplug the power cord from the back of the machine, remove the ink cartridges, wait 2 min, plug the power cord back in, press the power button to turn on the printer, wait for the printer to prompt that the ink cartridges are missing, then replace the ink cartridges. If this doesn't clear the error you may need to re-prime the ink cartridges. There is a good explanation of how to do this at http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/hp-photosmart-ink-system-failure-1/.
