Have you put in more than one control channel for your area.

I always put as many of the red or blue Control channels in my area. I counted 23 Control Channels for the whole system. I would put everyone in if it were me.

I set the system up as "Control Channel Only".

In a metroploitan area you should be able to pick up another control channel on the system.

I use the Arc396Pro Software ato program my scanner. (available at ScannerMaster) I know in the Pro version you can download the information directly into your scanner. You can try this to be sure your settings are going in correctly.

What did you mean by change the squelch?

The squelch control gets rid of the hissing on a blank channel. Finda blank channel, turn up the squelch control until the hissing stops. The scanner should then scan the channels and stop on a busy one.

Uniden police scanner

Hi,

Yes they are a great digital radio scanner, not POLICE scanner,

Police around the world are fed up with people using these to listen in on their operations, and are progressively moving to digital mode, but a mode that these scanners wont pick up, P25 or not.

There are many other things to listen in on, and it doesn't involve the law, fire, ambulance services.

If you're in a country or state or city where these services have gone to digital mode, then you're out of luck, you will not here anything on their frequencies.

But that's what happens when silly people use these radios in pursuits or any other way that hinders the service from doing the duties.

I feel no pain for your loss.

Cheers,
Peter

How to put the police channel on my uniden VH038SX-2NB

Hi Shorty,

Uniden UH038sx-2nb, is the make/model.

Unfortunately, what you have is a designated UHF CB radio, that can't be programmed with frequencies outside of the UHF CB band.
Well, not without stuffing the unit up, anyway.

Why would you want to program police frequencies into a 2-way radio anyway, The fact that police are moving or have moved to digital, means you won't hear anything anyway., so why bother?

That's what radio scanners were used for, until the cops found out, and started changing to Digital mode operations.

I really can't see the point of modifying and most likely destroying an otherwise perfectly working radio.

Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful, but that's life.

Regards,
Peter

My uniden bearcat 50 channel 800mhz stop the police, fire ect.. and only gives me weather.. why? can you help ?

  • You can try pressing "Manual" and then "Scan" or "Band" buttons from the weather setting to get you back to scanning the police, fire, etc.
  • Make sure you don't have a WX (Weather) frequency programmed into on of the regular 50 channels or the scanner will continue to stop every time around as it will pick up the WX frequency.
  • Make sure you have your scanner programmed as well.

Can you listen to a police frequency if it's trunked with this scanner? Uniden BC72xlt

You can listen to trunked police bands UNLESS: 1 they went Digital and your scanner is Analog. 2. They use an encrypted control frequency. 3. It is not against the law in your area. 4. you have a Trunked scanner. Following trunked frequencies requires a trunked scanner which is very different from regular everyday scanners. If the photo of your scanner is accurate then it appears you have Digital capability so that won't be a problem. You can go to Radio shack and purchase a book on Public Safety frequencies and Control Frequencies which will give you the proper frequency range but they will tell you nothing about Encryption on any Frequency. If you can not find a Control Frequency then you will not be able to track the hoping that is used in a trunked system. By the way, a Regular scanner runs about $50 where as a Trunked Scanner runs $150 to $200.

Uniden Bearcat BC 350A scanner won't pick up 800 channels

You BC350A provides coverage of popular bands between 29 and 512MHz, so it is not capable of receiving signals in the 800MHz range. Sorry, but you'll need a different scanner to follow the action.

Can not find a police channel on unit

Depending on your location, the pre-programmed service on your scanner may be useless, and you may or may not be able to tune local police communications. Many public service agencies have moved to the 800MHz bands, and many of those are using trunked radio systems - all beyond the capabilities of the BC340CRS.
