Hi,

Connect the laptop back to the external monitor. Do a manual switch from Control Panel, Display/settings tab/advanced button/search for your notebook's monitor settings and adjust it back to the laptop.

I think this problem has been caused by a Microsoft update which has caused problems with the Sony function application.

Regards.

Dismount you notebook and search the reset button. If it doesn't have one, just remove the battery and try to puttin it on and wait to see the lcd turns on.

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Lcd screen stuck in external screen mode

How to use the function (Fn) keys on the keyboard - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p

Switching the display output location.
Switch between the computer display and an external monitor. If an external monitor is attached, the computer output is displayed in the following three patterns by turns:
  • External monitor (CRT display)
  • Computer display and external monitor (LCD + CRT display)
  • Computer display (LCD)
Notes:
  • For any operating system other than Windows 2000 or Windows XP, no additional procedure is needed. Just press Fn+F7.
  • This function is not supported if different desktop images are displayed on the computer display and the external monitor (the Extend desktop function).
  • This function does not work while a DVD movie or a video clip is playing.
To enable this function in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the following procedure is needed:
  1. When you log on to Windows 2000 and Windows XP for the first time, press Fn + F7 and select a display-switching function in the Initial setup window. Since in Windows 2000 and Windows XP multiple users can log on to a single operating system by using different user IDs, each user needs to select the function in the initial setup window when logging on for the first time.
  2. If the Fn + F7 key combination have been assigned to a presentation scheme function, start Presentation Director, and change the settings.

Broken screen, external monitor via VGA won't

Press "Fn+F7" once, wait a few seconds, and press it again, to "cycle" through all the possibilities (LCD-only, VGA-only, both).

Try the monitor with some other computer (desktop or laptop) to see if the monitor works at all.

Restart your computer -- does the initial "splash" screen (showing CPU speed and RAM-test) show? Does the "Windows" screen (with the crawling worm) show on the external monitor?

The panel on my 600x works for a few minutes then turns off.

Your problem definitely sounds like the inverter - when you press FN-F7 you're restarting it and giving it a mild jolt. Luckily, it is a breeze to replace - undo two screws and pop off the screen bezel and it's just behind the contrast control. Get the service manual for the 600X from Lenovo's website which gives full stripdown details.

Which function key allows to switch to tv

Hi there,
You need to press hold the FN key and press the F4 function key once which toggles the display to the External Display source like the television connected along with the LCD of the Notebook.
If the FN and F4 key combination is pressed again, the display will dissappear from the LCD of the Notebook and remain only on the external source.
If the FN and F4 key combination is pressed third time, the display will be back on the LCD of the Notebook and will not remain on the External display source.
Here are these details in other way :
First time pressing FN + F4    ---> Display on LCD and External display
Second time pressing FN + F4 ---> Display not on LCD but on the External Display
Third time pressing FN + F4 ---> Display back on the LCD and not available on External Display (Normal position).
Below are the details of what the Function keys in your DV1000 Notebook work :
fn + f1 Opens Help and Support Center fn + f2 Opens print options window fn + f3 Opens default Internet browser fn + f4 Switches the image among displays fn + f5 Initiates Standby fn + f6 Initiates QuickLock fn + f7 Decreases screen brightness fn + f8 Increases screen brightness fn + f9 Plays, pauses, or resumes an audio CD or DVD fn + f10 Stops an audio CD or DVD fn + f11 Plays the previous track or chapter on an audio CD or DVD fn + f12 Plays the next track or chapter on an audio CD or DVD fn + esc Displays system information.* (*To clear the system information display, press esc.)
