Question about Tech Solution TS-4500 Shredder

1 Answer

I have been using my shredder heavily in the last 30 minutes. I have had to stop twice for it to cool down. It was working fine, and now it won't accept paper. The cutters are turning fine. It is not jammed and the can is not full. What is the problem?

Most shredders don't recommend use for more than 20-25 sheets in a session. Try using the reverse setting; even though you can't see paper, it's possible that there's some still in the feed channel. If after switching to reverse paper comes out, inspect the feed channel for more paper and clear any you find before trying to feed more sheets. Also in the future, constant use as you've described will burn out the motor.

My Infoguard sq70B shredder won't turn on. It is overheated. What should I do to start it again and prevent this from happening?

There is a thermal switch inside and in normal circumstances, once cooled down it will work again. With shredders you get what you pay for and if you want a good one, they are $600, will crosscut 12 sheets and can be used for 30 minutes straight and they usually have a strain indicator. They can also shred CDs and Credit Cards.. Most people buy them in the one to two hundred dollar range and encounter problems as you have. The gears all shredded on my $250 shredder.

To prevent it happening, never exceed the specified number of sheets to shred at one pass, normally 5 or 6, and never any longer that 5 minutes without a 20 minute cool down. Also use shredder oil on the cutters as this reduces strain and strain causes the motor to get hot.

Most shredders have strict rules about running times. Usually the motor cuts off after 5 minutes use (or thereabouts) and you have to wait for a sensor to cool down, maybe 15 minutes

On, Fwd, Rvs button has stopped working on my Shredmaster 75X. How do I fix this?

First check the power point is still working - plug in another appliance, like a table lamp. If OK check the fuse in the shredder cable plug.

The commonest reason for a shredder stopping is a paper jam, or running the shredder for too long. By 'too long', many shredders will cut-out after 5 minutes continuous working, and the sensor may take 15 minutes to cool down! Read the manual.

It maybe that the shredder cutters are jammed. Unplug from mains, and lift off top and place upside down. Use a small screwdriver and/or long nosed pliers to poke at any compressed paper wrapped around the blades - can take a while.

No power. Seems to be overloaded

Check the Power Ensure that the shredder top is firmly placed in the shredder basket if the unit will not operate. If the top is not in place the feeder will not work and accept any paper. Make sure it is firmly plugged into the wall outlet and that the outlet is active. Rest the Shredder Let the shredder cool down if the shredder has been running continuously for a long time. It may have overheated and needs to be left in the off position for at least 30 minutes to reset. Verify the basket is empty or not too full as that will cause the shredder to deactivate. Clear Paper Jam Rotate the shredder into "Auto" and reverse to loosen any paper jam that is stopping the gears. Pull out any papers that are sticking out from the shredder feeder. If there is no progress then unplug the shredder and remove the shredder top from the bin. Turn it upside down and use tweezers to free any paper that is blocking the gear. Auto Mode Not Working Select the "Auto" option and feed paper into the center of the feeder tray if the shredder is only working in reverse mode. The sensor is located in the middle of the feeder tray and could be blocked by jammed paper. Use an index card to firmly unblock any paper that could be blocking the sensor.
