ELECTRA SPLIT UNIT AIR CONDITIONER - NOT WORKING

I HAVE AN ELECTRA SPLIT UNIT AIR CONDITIONER FOR 10 YEARS NOW. I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS UPTO NOW. SUDDENLY, ONE DAY, IT DOESN'T COOL ANY MORE AND THE GREEN LIGHT ON THE UNIT PANEL, BLINKS ALL THE TIME. IS IT DEAD? OR THERE IS A SOLUTION?

I HAVE REFILLED THE GAS, CHANGED THE CAPACITOR - BUT STILL THE FAN JUST STARTS THE FIRST TIME AND THEN THE FAN GOES OUT.

Hi Josh, thanks for your response. We have narrowed down the problem to the air conditioner outdoor unit fan. For the first time when the compressor starts, the fan fails to start even after replacing the capacitor. If we start the fan with our hand, the fan continues to run (at a very low speed) and once the compressor cuts - off as much heat is not dispersed, the fan fails to run again. Do you think the issue might be with the fan motor? Once again thanks for your response.

You should check if the system has a call to run. On the outdoor unit there will be a feed in and interconnecting wires. Before checking anything else go to your outdoor unit and with the unit off try to move the fan to confirm it is not seized. if the fan moves freely then you'll need to confirm that the indoor unit is giving the outdoor unit power to run. Turn the system on and wait by the outdoor unit to check if the condenser fan runs. If the condenser fan starts and your compressor does not then your compressor is at fault. If the outdoor unit fails to run then you will need to start testing for further faults. Please enlighten me with more information when you have checked these basics.

If the outdoor fan is the one you are talking about, it will not cool when it is not running. It sounds like the motor is over amping and going out on interan overload. You will have to change the motor for the fan outside on the condensing unit

Split unit a/c - works but no cool air only air. I was told the compressor broke and would need to be replaced at a huge cost.

The warranty usually reflects the worst case life expectancy. In other words if your warranty is for 5 years then they expect that if the unit was to be run consistently with regular to no maintenance It will only last 5 years.

These systems are very expensive. But that is not because of there longevity but for their unique applications. Manufacturers are not selling nearly as many Mini splits as they do regular split systems. So it is really just a supply and demand situation.

Turn off unit supply and check the blower wheel inside the indoor unit by rotating it manually by your finger if the blower wheel rotates freely then there is something wrong with your fan motor or fan motor capacitor. But if the blower wheel is not rotating freely try to check the fan motor for lubrication or some bushing dried of and no oil
