Printer is not detected by computer. connected by

My printer is not detected by my computer. It is connected by a usb port. I have already used the help service with the printer and ruled out problems with queue, paused printing, etc. Is there a better way i can fix the problem?

    only problem is that i've had the printer for about a year now, and it's only stopped working recently. Any other thoughts?

It sounds like you do not have a driver installed for it use the cd it came with or download it from the website hope this was helpful:)

    the only thing that i can think of is that somehow the driver is out of date or a virus or software malfunction happened uninstall the driver and reinstall it that should correct any problem hope this was helpful:)

I have an old serial printer that works fine, I can not connect it to my new computer via a parallel to usb cable convertor on windows 7!


Hi craig931, First try downloading the latest driver of your printer and your usb converter compatible for windows 7. Second Checked your device manager if your printer and usb to parallel driver properly installed, it should be there. If not yet installed try using different usb port one at a time until the cable have been detected. Third if you see already the printer port force to change it to USB001 or Com1, then try to print. regards,

Doesn't recognize the USB cable anymore. I have replacexd it twice and it won't let me install the printer.


There's a big chance here that the problem is not with the USB cable but with the USB port of your computer or with the printer itself, first that you can do here is to try connecting the printer on a different SUB port on your computer and check if it will be detected now by he computer but if still not better if you can try this printer to a different computer and check if it will be detected because if it will be detected on different computer so the problem is with the USB port of your computer.
In a point that the printer will still not be detected by different computer so the problem here is with the printer itself and the printer needs servicing already.

All connections checked - still printer does not


Make sure you already installed the driver for the said printer on the computer you'll be using the printer on. You should have the driver on a CD with in the printer box. If you don't have the CD, you can download it in the support website of dell (support.dell.com). Also make sure that the printer is being detected by the computer using the USB. Try replacing the USB cable if not or use another USB port on your computer to connect the printer.

Usb cable or wireless conect? For usb, connect the usb cable from the printer to a usb port on the back of your PC, windows should detect and install its own driver(add the software later), to confirm its connected, go to start menu > control panel > hardware&sound > printer. Should say ready or online under your printers name. If it says ready or online, try a test print, right click the icon and select properties, then 'print test page' at the bottom. If this works your all good to go., next install printer software if you haven't already.

Cannot print from computer. printer will print test pages, though


How the printer is connected to PC Via USB or using Network Cable. If it is connected Netwrok cable than printer configuration page and on netwrok configuration there will be IP Address if this is valid IP Address than reinstall drivers and upgrade the Firmware of the printer.

If Printer is connected USB than try different USB Cable and try different USB Port on the computer
If USB port on the computer is working fine and check in Device Manager if the printer has detected as unknown device or not detected at all.
If detected as unknown device than reinstall printer driver if not detected at all than USB Port on the printer is faulty you need to set up hardware repair of the printer.

My pc won't detect my printer, my printer is brother dcp 150-c


have you connected the printer's USB port to your CPU? If not, then do so. If after doing it, still your PC don't detect your printer, make sure you have a functional USB port. To check it, try using a USB Flash drive if it works with your PC. If it won't, you might have to "Enable" your USB at your BIOS.

You need to try isolating the problem first.

1. Try connecting the USB cable into different USB port of your Mac Leopard.
2. Make sure that your computer could detect other USB devices.
3. Try connecting the printer into different computer to see if the printer would be detected or not.
4. Use different USB cable.

If you get the same problem, you need to contact the printer manufacturer. I believe that it is more on physical connection.

The port used for the connection is closed


"The port is closed" means that whatever port is being used for connection under your particular application is not receiving or sending communication. This is normal, you may ignore it. Although if it persists, you're having connection issues.

Incorrect Port Detected


  1. FIRST TRY TO CANCEL ALL THE PENDING DOCUMENTS WHICH YOU HAVE GIVEN BEFORE THEN TRY TO PRINT IF THIS DOES NOT WORK THEN TRY OTHER OPTION GIVEN BELOW.
  2. CHANGE THE USB WIRE (THE CONNECTION BETWEEN PRINTER AND YOUR PC )IF IT IS TOO OLD.
  3. THERE MAY BE THE PROBLEM WITH USB DRIVERS IN UR PC .
  4. TO RECTIFY --- RIGHT CLICK THE MY COMPUTER ICON
  5. CLICK PROPERTIES AND THEN CLICK HARDWARE N GO TO DEVICE MANAGER
  6. UNINSTALL ALL USB PORTS AND THEN SCAN FOR HARD WARE CHANGES
  7. UR PC WILL DETECT UR PRINTER N ASK FOR PRINTER DRIVERS
