Hi,

There is every chance that the CMOS battery is dead and it needs replacing.

As far as i know you have to disassemble the laptop to get to the battery, I'm sure its next to the memory. The battery looks like this >>>>>>>

Hi i have dell inspiron n5110 , if i remove my coms battery without replacing it will be a provlem for me

If you think you can wipe out a password on BOOT, you may be disappointed. The battery supplies energy to some components that keep the time (Real Time Clock), the date, and the configuration details. Every time you boot the computer will flag the wrong time and asks you to correct. Just buy a battery and put it in. It serves no purpose not to replace it, but you are master in your castle.

Error is the firmware has detected that a coms battery failure occurred

Hello!
i just want to inform you that CMOS battery failure is not a big deal
you just need to replace CMOS battery from the motherboard
CMOS battery is responsible for date and time management in you PC
also it gives a refrence point in time and space when booting
so if you are a serious programmer you may change it immidiately
and if you are a normal user and you are least bothered with system time and date then
you may keep ignoring this message.

thanks and regards

How to change cmos battery?

the COMS battery is part of the motherboard, in most PCs they are inserted in a removable slot, the battery is a watch cell the size of a Dime and can be replaced (the battery serial/model # may be CR2032)
In some they are fixed in the motherboard, it's hard to remove it in this case.
u need to open the PC box to look for the battery, it can be easily detected if you can view ur complete motherboard.

Hi. The clock on my Acer will not keep the correct time any more and it doesnt change dates on the calendar either. Do I need to change a battery in my motherboard?

If you change the BIOS date and time and when you boot up next time and the date and time has changed back or is incorrect, then the most likely fault is a flat BIOS battery. Replace the BIOS battery, it maybe a coin type lithium 3volt battery. this is the most common type used in motherboards is a CR2030 lithium battery.
