Loading songs - format message

My girlfriend got an ipod shuffle (newer version) and she's having trouble loading songs into it. She keeps getting the "format ipod" message but she has already done so. Any ideas?

Re: Loading songs - format message

If you've used wmp to rip and encode the cd to the wma file standard, the ipod won't play them. the ipod doesn't support wma or ogg vorbis (and doesn't support the pro part of mp3 pro) you need to encode your files to either mp3 or aac (or leave them as wav files, though these are very large) for the ipod to play them. this may be causing the mmjb transfer problems.

check out the software compendium on info on alternatives to rip, encode and transfer to the ipod.

I just bought it and can't set it up?

The iPod Shuffle is one of the smallest MP3 players available. But with no screen and no buttons it is easy to see why you may find it difficult to use and, indeed, set up. In order to set the iPod Shuffle up, the first and most important thing that you should have is the latest version of iTunes running on your computer. Once you have this, and have followed a few steps, setting up the iPod Shuffle is really not too challenging.

Connect to the Internet and download the latest version of iTunes from the iTunes website. Plug your iPod into your computer's USB port using the USB lead provided with your iPod Shuffle. Create a name for your iPod and type it into the "Name" box in the iPod setup window that appears on your screen. Check, or leave blank depending on how you wish to manage your iPod, the check boxes next to "Automatically sync songs to my iPod" and "Enable VoiceOver" below the "Name" box on the screen. Click on the "Done" tab in the bottom right of the screen when you have finished. Leave "Automatically sync songs to my iPod" unchecked and import songs manually by clicking on the "Music" header in the left-hand column and dragging the songs you want on your iPod into your named iPod file in the left hand-column, underneath "Devices." Alternatively, click in the "Music" tab and sync your songs by checking the boxes by specific artists, playlists and genres. Click on the "Apply" button in the bottom right-hand corner once you have chosen your settings. Click on the "Sync" tab in the bottom right corner when you have selected the music you wish to add if you have decided to add songs manually. Eject your iPod by clicking on the upward-pointing arrow to the right of your iPod's symbol underneath the "Devices" header on the left-hand side of the screen once it has finished syncing. Unplug your USB lead when the "OK to Disconnect" bar has finished loading at the top of the screen. Hope it helps.

Wen i connect my i pod to computer it does not connect

Check to see whether your iPod shuffle is the original stick version or the newer version, which plugs into the iPod dock connector.

Turn your PC on.

The PC needs to be on to transfer music and charge the iPod shuffle.

Place the iPod shuffle in the iPod dock connector if you have the newer version.

If you're using the original version, then plug it directly into a high-power USB port on your PC.

Check the monitor to ensure iTunes has loaded.

This means a connection was established.

hope this helps

New Ipod Shuffle is not loading songs

Generally you do not have to change the drive letter. There is a 'shuffle restore' program from Apple that you can download for free. Using this to restore your iPod will set it back to factory conditions. Do you have the latest version of iTunes on your computer? If not, you might want to try that also. Have you tried dragging your playlist into the Shuffle? I find that it helps with my shuffle to create playlists and have it fill out of them. That way I can change the playlist every day. Works for me. Hope that helps.

IPOD Shuffle deletes songs if I delete them from the music library in Itunes

You have to keep all the songs that you want on your iPod on your computer, otherwise you will get this problem. So if you want song "a" on your iPod it must also be in your iTunes library at all times unless you don't want it on your iPod anymore

There are many, many possible reasons it could not be playing - the problem with the Shuffle is that you can't see what you're doing on the player itself.

The songs that you are loading could be in the wrong format. I would make sure that they don't have a license that disallows transfer rights, and make sure you are not loading streaming songs.

You should do a restore:

How to restore iPod shuffle
  1. Ensure that you have an active Internet connection as new versions of iTunes and iPod Software may need to be downloaded to your computer.
  2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes if you do not already have it installed.
  3. Open iTunes, and then connect iPod shuffle to your computer.
  4. After a few moments, it will appear in the Source pane in iTunes.
  5. Select your iPod shuffle in the Source pane and you will see information about it appear in the Settings tab of the main iTunes windows
  6. The Version section tells you whether iPod shuffle is up to date or needs a newer version of the software.
  7. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
    • Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
    • Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
    • Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
    • Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
  8. If you are using a Mac, a message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator’s name and password.
  9. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will present a message instructing you to leave iPod shuffle connected to computer to complete restore process.
  10. During the stage 2 of the restore process, a green LED will flash once on iPod shuffle, then amber and green LEDs will flash briefly, and finally the amber LED will begin to flash continuously. It is critical that the iPod shuffle remains connected to the computer during this stage.
  11. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete, the iPod Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.
