Question about NRS Fleck 5600 - 64,000 Grain Timer Water Softener

2 Answers

I inherited a water softener system with the house - I do not have any manual or cannot see the name anywhere. It worked fine for 4 years and now it's stopped and do not know what to do? We added the softener salt and kept on topping it up every 2 - 3 weeks but one day it did not function and all the salt is become one big lump.

It could be that the timer or some have a meter that is not telling the unit to regenerate. That can cause the salt to bridge or clod. If that is the case the timer motor may need replacing or the meter needs the turbine cleaned.

There are a number of things that it could be. The main problem is that the softner is not sucking the brine into the tank. It still ran water into you tank till the safety shutoff stopped it. This made all the salt turn into a big lump. You will need to find out why the unit does not have suction when it is in the "brine and rinse" mode. Probably either the float in the brine tank is stuck or there is dirt in the screen at the top of the hose out of the brine tank that is stopping the brine from being sucked up the hose. First empty the tank and then you can see what the unit is doing from there.

Water Softener full of water, not draining, or using salt

How old is the system ? Where does the system drain to ? If this is the softener you have (seems awful large for a household) it is probably the injector/nozzle assembly. I have attached a manual to help you. A restriction in the drain line could also be the problem. Fleck 2850s

The fastest I ever saw a Kenmore softener thrown in the dump was seven weeks old. This was at the owner's insistence; just wouldn't remove iron. He bought an Autotrol with a turbulator from me. This was about 15 years ago and it still works just fine. He had his first service call 2 years ago. I've always thought that quality was more important than price, but if you wish to install yourself I can come so close to the "sale" price of a Kenmore.

What preventive maintenance should be carried out on salt water sofeteners

in as far was the water softener you need to do your salt tank, about every two years let the salt get low. when its hit a low point with proper safety gear face mask and eye cover and gloves remove the old salt and wash out the tank. then install new salt dispose of the old salt. I bury mine where I dont want grass th grow.

The tank itself should be cleaned and re charged about every 3 years fo a family of 4, If you have a double tank system you can go 4 years.

In as far as what can you do for a fauect and valves just keep the outside clean, like a watter heater spray the pipes with WD 40 inside the pipes under the sink WD 40 them on top just keep them clean with soap and water. If you see a spot that is starting to rot. Take a tooth brush and (an OLD ONE) brush the area. now take so food oil and wipe it down let it sit for a hour then with a dry cloth buff the area. repeat when needed.

I hope that I covered everything you were looking for

My water heater is leaking and only 4 years old. Will the use of a water softener void the warranty?

The warranty should not be void by using water softener, BUT read product manual.

1) First thing: Why is water heater leaking? Where is the leak?
For example, if you have electric water heater leaking from element, then replace element.
Replace leaking TP valve.
If water is leaking down vent pipe, and combustion chamber rusted out, then vent problem must be corrected.
These are not covered by warranty.
If tank is rusted out, then read below.

2) If water heater is rusted out after 4 years, you might have stray current corrosion.
This happens when hot and cold pipes are not connected together with a ground wire, and/or if cold water pipe is not grounded to earth.
This might not be covered by warranty.

3) Read water heater instruction manual for advisories.
Tanks rust out when anode rod is depleted. Softened water depletes anode rod faster.
Instruction manual says to check anode rod each year.
Checking anode rod is like checking oil on an engine. If oil was never checked and engine burned up, the manufacturer will not honor the warranty.
If anode rod is depleted, and tank is rusted out, the warranty might not cover the rusted tank since owner was supposed to check for anode depletion.

4) Anode rods can also be covered with calcium deposits and stop working.
This night not have anything to do with water softener, but anode stops working and tanks rusts out.
In any case the owner's manual probably says to check anode rod to prevent leaking from rusted tank

I have culligan house water softner. after i changed my hot water heater my softner stopped working. I dont have a manual to check. any suggestions?

Unless the softener was bypassed when the water heater went in, installing a water heater has no bearing on the softener working or not. Is it unplugged?

We are trying to install a water softener system for the entire house. We have two water heaters in the attic. Where is the best place to install the water softener system? Is it o.k. to install it with...

My brother had a system installed a few years ago, and he had it installed in his garage, which worked out well. You want to have it installed somewhere where there is easy access, if possible, since you will have to add chemicals occasionally. He only has one water heater, but there is no reason you cannot install it with two heaters- all you need to do is make sure the water softener device goes between the main inlet line and the lines to the water heaters and rest of the house, of course. This is about all I can say, without knowing more about the house layout, but hope it helps, and good luck- they can really be a blessing in certain areas of the country, and will make a big difference in the quality of the water, for drinking as well as everything else.

I have recently moved into a house which has a water softener installed - doe sthi smean that I do not have to use salt or rinse aid in the dishwasher

You will need to use salt in the softener, and rinse aid in the dishwasher will help, but you won't need to use as much.

You do want to make sure the softener is working and is setup right. You can take a sample of water before the softener (maybe on an outside faucet) and have it analyzed for hardness. Then use the manual for the softener to adjust it for the level of hardness in your water.

If you have a septic system, this is crucial, because the softener will recharge itself at night and put extra water down the drain. If you recharge too often, you can overload the septic system.

Fabric softener not dispensing

You could have a clog in the housing underneath the dispenser where the water flows through a hose into the tub.
Pull the dispenser drawer completely out.
There is a tab that needs to be depressed to release the drawer and remove it.
Check the opening at the bottom of the housing just inside the dispenser housing opening to see if a small sock or garment is clogging this opening.
Reach down into this opening to see if an item is inside the hose.
This is the normal issue that will cause water to leak out of the dispenser housing.,wbwdbgswgksbgfwxgtqsskgwtqkq,vi/ktfgsrbbdxwtwtqtfwk/1/1303472/5961857/image45924img-or.jpg

Wash the dispenser drawer thoroughly with warm water. Make sure that you pull off the siphon covers and wash all siphon holes. This process is described in your owner's manual. Replace the dispenser drawer and try the washer again.
