As far as I can tell, this is an annoying feature of the scanners. When they do a cold boot, they return to factory settings and wipe any software you have installed. They seem not to wipe things which are reg settings, but anything else is fair game. I think the only solution is to avoid a reset (which means keeping the beastly things charged).

I'm receivingonmy LG Rumor Touch vm510 Error code - RTSP 403 ?? What is it and what can I do with it now ?

RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) 403 is the error code for forbidden ie. the page you are trying to access is forbidden

Causes of the 403 error are as follows

A third-party program: download accelerator, firewall or anti-virus is preventing you from connecting to a particular site.
A windows update site control, which is usually installed on your computer, may be corrupt or is missing.
The system host file may be missing or not properly configured.
Files needed for Internet Explorer to work may be damaged or missing.

How you can fix the error 403

1. Disable any recently installed programs. The programs I am referring to here are the programs mentioned above: accelerators, anti-virus and/or firewall. You may want to disable each one individually and test the page. If you disable all of them at once and it fixes the problem, you won't be able to tell which one was causing the issue. But, by disabling each one and testing you may be able to narrow down the culprit program.

2. Reset Host file to default. If you develop websites and are constantly updating this file, it's possible that you added settings that is causing your current issue. A suggestion here is to reset the host to it's original configuration. You may want to make a copy before reverting to the original settings. You may want to refer to these settings later or individually add them to the new host file. Follow this Microsoft article, and click the Fix Me option. This will set the host file back to it's default settings.

Not open windows of my pocket pc

Hi there,
You need to reset your i-mate Jam, for doing so please follow these instruction
i-Mate JAM soft reset
Resetting Your Pocket PC Phone

You can perform a soft reset or a full reset. During a soft reset, the device is restarted and only some data in opened programs may be lost. However, a full reset turns the battery off, returns the device to its original factory settings, and deletes all programs, files, contacts and other information you have saved to the device. Therefore, it is extremely important to back up data to a storage card or your computer on a regular basis in the event that a full reset has to be performed.

To perform a soft reset

If your Pocket PC Phone responds slowly, stops responding, or freezes, you can soft reset it. A soft reset causes the Pocket PC Phone to restart and re-adjust memory allocation. Unsaved data in any opened applications may be lost. Use the stylus to press and hold the Reset button, as shown on the next page.

i-Mate JAM hard reset
To perform a full reset

A full device reset clears memory, deletes all data and restores the Pocket PC Phone to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain, erasing all data that you have created and programs you have installed. Press and hold the power button, and then use the stylus to press the soft reset button at the same time. Be sure you have backed up all your data in a SD card or on your PC before performing a full reset.

If you require more assistance, feel free to reply to this post Regards-BA

Have a VB app for Symbol MC1000 barcode scanner that has worked for about a year. Recently, scanner brought to IT dept since app no longer runs. Error is "Cannot find app_name (or one of its components)....

I had a similar problem on an MC75.

I had a back up of the registry, so I restored the backed up registry and it all started to work again.

Hope this helps!

Hard reset

Occasionally, you may need to reset your device. A normal (or soft) reset of your device clears all active program memory and shuts down all active programs. This can be useful when your device is running slower than normal, or a program is not performing properly. A soft reset is also necessary after the installation of some programs. If a soft reset is performed when programs are running, unsaved work will be lost.
You can also perform a hard reset (also known as a full reset). A hard reset should be performed only if a normal reset does not solve a system problem. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings — the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
To perform a soft reset
Use the stylus to press the RESET button found on the lower left side of your device. Your device restarts and displays the Today screen.

To perform a hard reset
  1. Press and hold the Left SOFT KEY and the Right SOFT KEY, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the lower left side of your device.
  2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the two soft key buttons. Release them only when you see the following message on your device screen: “Press Send to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.“
  3. Press on your device. Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed.

Add/Remove Programs

Try this: click start>right click my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager>network adapters>choose the device you want to get rid and click on un-install. Go back to add/remove and see its still there. If not great, if so you may have to go around your pc and manually delete every thing that's associated with this device. One other thing you may try is to reinstall the original software and then try to remove it through add/remove by reinstalling you set the software back at its defaults and restore missing of corrupt files. This should restore the un-install file you need to completely un-install the device your try to get rid of.

Diference between Cold boot and warm boot

A warm boot restarts the mobile computer by closing all running programs. All data that is not saved is lost.

A cold boot also restarts the mobile computer, but erases all stored records and entries from RAM. In addition it returns formats,
preferences, and other settings to the factory default settings.
