Hi alot of sony customers are having this same problem as you it is covered by the warranty so dont do anything with it just contact the place you brought it form they should replace it for you if the say they wont contact customer support in your manual and then they will tell you the best way to get it sorted out its not worth trying to repair yourself because it should still be under warranty even if no warranty sony will replace it because its such a common fault.
The problem relates to the laser failing usuall the laser motor fails not spinning the disk but alot of the ps3 have been either having your problem or over heating this is the other most common fault.
Just remember when they replace your ps3 that dont use it on carpet it needs to be on solid flat surface and also dont have it on top of dvd player or any other device as this will cause the unit to over heat and fail.
Im sorry i couldnt give you good news but it really isnt worth messing with unless you have no other options left as if you was to repair it yourself you will need to buy new laser unit and these for the ps3 are not cheap and you will also need osciloscope that is if you are going to do the repair yourself they cost about £1000 so the cheapest way is to pay a repair shop to calibrate the laser as they will have the scope to calibrate the laser with as you cant do it without let me know if you need further assistance ok

You will probably need a laser replacement. Check your local game stores to see if they do console repairs. If not you will have to find a laser online and attempt to replace it yourself. It's fairly simple.

There's a strong possibility that the Blu Ray laser has croaked. Since this is a minor repair, you might be able to have this taken care of at GameStop, or another local shop that specializes in minor repair of PS consoles. If it needs to be sent somewhere to be fixed, I recommend PSR. You can contact them at www.psr1.com . They do warranty & out-of-warranty work. I found their prices very reasonable. Hope this helped. Good luck, fellas
