Hi.

The normal cause for this is a start relay (Part No:1701624) that has failed.
It sits inside the front panel roughly behind the start button. Its purpose is to keep the machine running when you let go of the button.

Cost is roughlt £26.00

Hope this helps

Dryer will start when start button is pushed, but as soon as you stop pressing the button, the dryer stops

I would open up the control panel unplug the unit, disconnect the wires to the push-to-start-switch and use a paperclip to attach these two connecters. If everything works you know it is the switch that is bad.

Push start button the dryer will tumble, but immediately stops

there is a relay that latches on when you push the start button .. that relay is released by the "door open" switch .. i would suspect that the "door open" switch is bad .. thats usually a button that is pushed in when the door is closed ..

Start switch starts dryer but as soon as release d the dryer stops. Ifstart switch held in start position it turns and heats.

one of 2 things, your door switch is not working or the wires are shorted causing it not to work

Start but will not stay running

Some dryers have a broken belt micro switch mounted where a lever will stop the motor from getting into the run mode. They do this to keep the heater from catching fire. If your dryer is a DOT dryer (dryer of tomorrow) made by maytag for kenmore then it certainly has such a switch. If your dryer is a plain jane whirlpool manufactured one then you needs a motor replacement most likely friend. Sowwy.
