Question about Panasonic PT-50LC13 50" Rear Projection HDTV
I need to clean the air filter. I can't find it in the front, next to the bulb compartment, or in the back anywhere. Can you please tell me where it is?
It is in the front on the left of the bulb compartment. It is as easy as removing two screws using lots of DAMP Q tips and having some patience. Keep carefully swabbing top and underside filter until clean, then lightly and very carefully vacuum with a home vac do not use a shop vac!
Leave TV unplugged with cover off as long as you can I would say a few hours or overnight and then plug in. If the filter is clean and you still get the error message there are other posts here that explain how to go into service mode and reset.
You do not need to spend hundreds of dollars on a "Panasonic" technician who has "done it before". You can dooooo it!!

I Did remove the front panel (2 screws),next to the lamp panel. Did the Q-tip/alcohol then vacuum trick numerous times on both filters, though the large one that is underneath is almost impossible to get to. First time I did it, the TV worked fine for about six weeks. Then the message came back. So, I went back in and cleaned them again, then the TV would work for a while (few weeks, then just a few days after the 3rd and 4th try. I then saw online that there was a 3rd filter through the rear panel. So I called a TV technician that charged me $125.00, for him to do the exact same thing I had just done, and tell me that there was no such 3rd filter. So after suffering this rip off, I decide to remove the back cover myself, then removed a few more screws and assemblies ( as I found explained on some other blog) and there is that 3rd filter that I carefully pulled out. It was very dirty. So I cleaned it (Vacuum, blow gun, alcohol). Then I put the whole thing back together, then the TV worked for another month. Then comes that filter message again! So I went back in the front panel, then carefully unglued the small filter and looked at it in the light, it still was very dirty, so I cleaned it really good following the usual procedure, then glued it back on, then the TV worked for another couple of weeks. Then I got mad and got back in the front panel then managed to remove the large filter using a long skinny blade. I looked at it in the light and it was very dirty. Now I have no way to put it back in because of restricted access so I decide to leave it out! The TV has been working fine so far (2 weeks), but I have little hope for its future. This is a hard lesson learned. I though I followed procedure to the textbook to clean those filters, but something tells me that this "cleaning solution" only buys you little time. This also tells me that the only way to repair this the right way is to replace those filters with new ones, which probably means replace the whole projection unit as far as getting the parts from Panasonic!

This set has two filters that need vacuming. The one under the light engine is the usual culprit. Call a Panasonic Authorized service company that has done this before.
