I have a Toshiba TV model 32AF43. The TV sometimes doesn't pick the signals from the remote. I know the remote works. Can I replace the infrared receiver on the TV? Thanks in advance

    Hi:
    OK, I'll try that.
I have a couple of questions:
    - Do you have the original part number of the infrared receiver for my TV? That might help making sure the replacement part fits.
    - I noticed that the links you gave me for the part point to IR receivers for different TVs than the problem one. Is this module of a very generic type?
    - Could you supply a link to the service manual for the TV?
    - I'm not sure if I need to dissasemble the front, back or both panels to do the soldering. Any guidance? I hate to dissassemble needlessly.
    Thanks in advance

Hi, you can change the infrared reciever but the problem is getting the part the only real chance you have of getting the part would be to go into your local tv repair shop and ask them to order you one as they might be able to get you a universal one, as long as your 100% sure you can remove the old one and resolder the new without causing any damage to the corcuit board then you could go ahead with doing it.

But are you 100% sure the control is working properly the first thing i would do is take the control apart and give the back of the buttons a good clean and give all the contacts on the board a good clean also as this is the usual cause of the problem your having.
If this dont make no change then you could buy an all in one remote you can get these for next to nothing so try one of these first as you could change the part on the telly and still have the same problem.

So do the control first to make 100% sure that its the telly at fault and not the control.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Yes , you can replace the IR receiver.

you may need to open the unit , be sure that everything is unplugged

and visually look for the IR receiver.

the IR receiver have 3 important pins to operate.

you may need to use a 30 watt soldering iron and a good soldering

lead . and try to resolder the 3 most important pins

if the soldered joint is shiny , it must be good

and try again on your remote

if it still fails and you need really the IR Receiver it might be similar , is available at

i haven't told you disassembled your unit, if you feel you cant solder and measure voltages

likewise with just looking inside the unit, and confirming the components that you have inside

then it might probably best to have someone have your unit be serviced by a professional.

it would not cause you much by just having a rough estimate on your unit.

although there are schematics and service manuals they are just a reference for the unit you are

having.some parts are replaced by the manufacturers depending on their date of manufacture

to improve the performance of the unit. what is important is you know what kind of part you need to

replace. some have labels usually don't and usually it is for the tech knowledge to decide. .

My toshiba 65in will not respond to my remote

The infrared sensor to your TV might be bad. It should be replaced. It is an easy to get part, and is cheap to buy from any electronic spare part shops. To access and replace it, you have to pull out the front panel PCB. In fact, you have to open the TV to replace it. The component will look somewhat like this.

Check the infrared emission from the remote control first. If it is found OK, repalce the infrared sensor inside your tV.

Tv doesn't pick up signal from remote

Hi Connie,

First of all, thank you for posting your question here at Fixya.
Please ensure that the battery is in good condition. Check the battery terminal for corrosion, Scratch it with fine sandpaper.
If the battery and its terminal is not the issue, please confirm if the remote control emits an infrared by pointing directly the sensor (infrared emitter) to your cellphone/digital camera. If it is working fine, you will be able to see the flash of the infrared through the screen of your camera. Watch the video below.

If you've confirmed that there's no infrared coming out from the remote control then this is an indication that the remote control itself is already faulty. Replace it with new one (part no. 0980-0305-3300 ).
If you can see the flash of the infrared, the IR board inside the TV is faulty. Please inquire at this link for replacement.

Hope I helped you.
Good luck and have a great day!

Tv not responding to remote works sometimes

hello, usually if the remot control is ok, then the infrared receptor need to be replaced, he is placed near the stand by light.
in a rare case the problem is at the 5v voltage that goes to the receptor. more rare is the possibility
that something is wrong at the microprocessor circuit.
i hope it was helpful!! Let me know if you need further guidance

The remote control does not work to turn tv on. Channel does not change either so need to go to tv and all works well when at tv.

Hello, you need to make sure what is broken, the remote control or the TV. To check the integrity of the remote control, you need to broadcast from the remote control while he aimed at the video camera. If you see a flicker of light through the camera it shows the integrity of the remote control. In this case the infrared receptor need to be replaced, he is placed near the stand by light.in a rare case the problem is at the 5v voltage that goes to the receptor. more rare is the possibility that something is wrong at the microprocessor circuit. . If the remote control out of order, can be opened carefully by a thin screwdriver, usually the causes to the error are loose components or contacts that are supposed to weld back into the board.

i hope it was helpful!! Let me know if you need further guidance

Infrared sensor won't work in a Toshiba TV

The remote wouldn't work on my brand new 46" Toshiba TV. Comcast person said the tv gave off an infrared signal that interferred with the Comcast remote.

Solution was to turn on cable box FIRST, then TV ( now I use All On button, which turns on cable first). If I turn on TV first, the remote wouldn't work consistently. Hope this works for you.
