Question about Craftsman Garden

IIs there a spring somewhere on the plate that holds the tension wheel? Sears 5.5 hp rototiller. The tensioner is very loose and when the handle is activated the belt falls off as the wheel after a few spins, moves to the side and belt comes off. Any idea?

Where do I tighten bobbin thread

on the outside of the bobbin case where you pull the bobbin thread around and down a small; slot to under a small flat spring
that flat spring is the bobbin thread tension and is adjusted by the screw that holds that plate on
a very small amount of turn of that screw make a large difference to the tension
However if your problem is birdnesting under the material ( total mess) then the problem is not bobbin tension but the needle tension is too loose and not pulling up the bobbin thread properly

How do I change auger drive belt

First remove the spark plug wire, then either drain the gas, or put some plastic over the gas tank opening, and put the cap over it. This should prevent gas from coming out of the vent when you tip the machine. Then follow these steps:
1. Remove the cover that goes over the belts on top of the machine just behind the sheet metal auger housing.
2. Tip the snowblower forward so that it rests on the front of the machine. This will allow you to remove the bottom skid plate.
3.Remove the skid plate.
4. There should be a spring that holds the belt-tensioner against the belts. remove one end of that spring so that the belt-tensioner can move out of the way easily.
5. Now it should be possible to remove and replace the belts. Put them on the bottom pulleys first, then you should be able to get them onto the engine pulleys.

From there, replace the tensioner spring and skid plate. Put the snowblower back on it's wheels and check the operation of the auger handle to make sure the tensioner is operating properly. Once you are happy with everything, replace the top cover. Be sure to remove the plastic from under the gas cap, refill your gas tank, and put the spark plug wire back on.

Still having with husquvarna designer I sewing machine. Tried new needles, changed stabilizer, tightened tension and loosed tension and still it is wrapping around needle plate and bunching underneath

Check bobbin case for loose threads in spring area that could be causing bobbin not to hold enough tension on bobbin thread. You can check bobbin case tension by using your needle plate. Holding bobbin case in your hand, insert a bobbin and thread it through the spring as usual. On the end of the bobbin thread, tie your needle plate to the thread. Hold case in your hand side ways so that thread travels downward with needle plate and thread trails downward across the case. The case should be perpendicular to the table top or floor. The weight of the needle plate should be so that the thread does not travel down unless the bobbin case is shaken slightly. The thread should then travel down slowly but stop once you hold case steady. If this is ok, check top tension. Turn on the machine. Lower the presser foot. With needle threaded, pull the thread the needle. You should feel some resistance. If there is none. Raise the presser foot and brush out any loose threads that might be caught in the upper tension disks. Many times, loose threads can get caught here that will keep disks from closing completely.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

My Earthquake Rear Tine Gas Rototiller - 196cc Viper Engine 4-cycle just makes a squeeling noise and tines won't rotate.

Sounds like the belt is slipping. Have you removed the belt cover and inspected the belt and the tensioner pulley ? If your model is like mine the tension can be adjusted just below the handles by looseneing the nut where the cable goes into the cable sheath and moving the cable cover further away from the handle. That takes up some slack and will make the tensioner pulley tighter on the belt. If the belt is shot tension isn't going to help.
Try "google" with "earthquake 5070 manual" first option should be a PDF copy of a model 5070 manual. Will have diagrams on how to adjust the cables.

Snow blower recoil rope broke tied back up and now will not recoil

Unless the recoil spring is broken, then you may have neglected to pre-load the recoil spring. With the recoil unit off of the motor, wind the rope fully around the pulley. Then, while keeping the rope fully wound, turn the pulley about 5 times around in the direction that would push the hope out through the hole. At this point the recoil spring will be trying to spin. Without losing that tension, push the end of the rope out through the hole, thereby putting a bit more tension on the recoil spring. Tie on the handle. Now, when you let go of the rope, the spring should hold the handle snug against the hole. An alternative method is to use a rope about 2 to 3 feet longer than the original. Wind it fully around the spool and put the end of it through the hole. Now pull the extra length through the hole until the tension is sufficient. Cut off the extra length and tie on the handle.
good luck, Al K

Pull rope broke. attached back but cant figure out how to make the rope recall work

The recoil spring has to be pre-loaded about 5 turns, even when the rope is fully returned. When you pull out the rope, you increase this tension, but if you are starting from zero, there won't be enough spring tension to fully recoil the rope. Wind the rope on the spool, then rotate the spool about 5 turns in the direction that would "push" the rope out through the hole. Now put the rope through the hole and put the handle on it. If you got the tension right, it should be sufficient to easily hold the handle up against the hole.

Need to replace the pull cord assembly, because something that tension the spring is missing. Tried substitute cord but found after reassembly there was no tention on the cord something is missing.

When the cord breaks, the internal spring will completely unwind. You have to re-tension the spring, then attach the cord and wind it onto the spool while holding the spool against tension. Finally, feed the end of the cord out through the cord port and tie the handle while still holding tension. A small pair of Vise Grip pliers will hold the cord while dealing with the handle. It's about like setting a trap without getting your fingers caught. Hope this helps!

How to change belts on older troy built rototiller

Make sure the belt tension is adjusted before you change the belts. at the bottom of the forward and reverse lever you will see and small wheel that rides on an adjustment plate. On the front side of that adjustment slide is a 9/16" bolt. Loosen that bolt a bit and tap the adjustment slide down a bit, maybe a 1/8 inch. That should adjust the belt tension so you dont have to till with one hand while holding down the direction lever. Hope this helps.
