Question about Hotpoint HSS25GFP Side by Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

My fridge smells like hot vinegar, but I have cleaned it inside and out several times. It only smells when the motor/fan is running, and the smell comes from underneath. I don't know what to do now. I checked all the foods to make sure everything in both freezer and fridge are sealed properly. The only thing I can't clean is behind the walls and a can of pepsi exploded in the freezer about 4 weeks ago that my daugher left in it. Could that be the problem? What do I do if that could be it? any help is appreciated, thanks

I did check that pan, which does not come out on this fridge oddly, but the liquid is odorless. I thought about adding a little bleach before and I will give it a try. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Hi, after reading you're problem, and the 1st solution, yes this pan sometimes can get really bad, but you said the fluid had no smell. That would not be the problem then. If you smell it when the fan comes on and it comes from under the unit, you will need help in pulling it out, to see what may be under there? On the back bottom, there should be a fiber panel that can be removed, unplug 1st, and there will be a small condenser coil and fan, also the compressor. Maybe there is something on this coil you can clean off. Be gentle with it as you can restrict the air flow if you mash down the coil fins. Smell and look very good and you should find the smell. Did it smell before the soda was spilled? I doubt if this is the problem. You will find it, just look behind it. It could also be a component failing. Please keep me informed, Sincerely,

Odd smell when plugged in. smells almost like a lubricant or diaper cream. we've cleaned and bleached everywhere we can. it doesn't smell unless it is running and it is not inside the refrige

in the freezer behind the back inside wall of the freezer there's an evaporator fan motor that could cause this if you were smelling this inside, there's also a condenser fan motor in the back bottom of the machine that blows when it's running, pull out the machine, remove the bottom back panel and check the fan motor to see if any oil is leaking out of the motor.

Check to see if the sensor in the freezer compartment is encased in ice. If so, do a complete defrost and restart the unit. Another possibility is a bad thermostat and/or sensor.

The water comes out the top of the manuel filter so not all the hot water goes through the holder. the coffee is loosely put in the filter

Try running vinegar through the Keurig to clean and de-scale it. You should use white vinegar, run it through using several cups until there is no vinegar left, then use clean water to brew plain hot water until you can no longer smell vinegar. This will help de-scale the Keurig and potentially remove any plugged bits of coffee that may remain.

Foul-smelling coffee

you may need to run white vinegar thru the unit... and dont be in a rush to get the vinegar out of it... let the vinegar work...
If you suspect bacteria, then mild bleach water... and dont be bashful about the quantity... allways filter the water and consider using bleachwater to clean the needles that puncture the kcups....

The fan inside is having a hard time rotating...starting to smell. what gives?

If the fan motor is quite hot to the touch when it is running and the smell is like something burning and the fan blade isn't rubbing on the housing then the fan motor bearing are most likely worn out. If that is the case then the fan motor is bad and needs to be replaced.

Bad smell from ac unit in my house

does it smell like literally , dirty socks?if so it is dirty sock syndrome, a plague of heat pumps for years. if it smells like an electrical melting or burning of wires then time to call a pro.it could be a weak capacitor or a weak fan motor. if it is dirty sock syndrome then its the microbes that thrive when temps are middle temps and reproduce when temps are hot and cold in intermittent days. hot one day and cold the next equals call for cool then call for heat and hot steam from heated coils cause s bacteria to grow and microbes to spread across coil. when you switch back it causes the smell.if the coil is clean you can spend a chunk of money on sanitizers but best bet is to run it cool for hot weather and hot for cool weather. the transitional periods are what create the smell. avoid semi cool and semi hot periods. this condition is common to acs from all brands . lots of stuff on the internet about dirty sock syndrome

Fan blows out a smell from underneath fridge could it be leaking gas.

call the repairman back and say forget it ,on the motor youll see a flat pan ,like a cookie sheet on top ,the excess water from the freezer drains into a tube and into that pan as the motor gets hot it evaporates the water, just clean the pan, shut down fridge, unplug and let motor cool, clean the pan and tell hubby not to waste good beer lol

Odor will not go away.............

hi there,

i would let you try putting a small can with charcoal in it inside the dishwasher. However, you cant use it for about 1 weeks' time.

Charcoal absorbs trapped smell.

hope this helps.
