Also have the same problem, can get sound but no video using 6th gen classic 160

I know that the 5th gen works fine. I hear you might be able to download firmware from older ipod but afraid to do so. There needs to be a easier fix for this. After all that was one main reason I bought this radio.

  • richard1959 Jan 14, 2008

that's what i've been told. maybe you can tell how's that's done. and are there anything bad going to happen if i do this. but if you can tell me step by step as how to do this. I thank you!

  • richard1959 Jan 16, 2008

Guester, do you know where I can get this firmware? of course I have 1.0.3 on a 80g ipod classic. the only place i could find this file 1.0.2 was a bad file.

  • richard1959 Jan 28, 2008

Not sure, have tried to roll back but file was no good. Everything I

read about this says if you roll back firmware it should work.

Apple sucks! Where did you get firmware?

  • GJDvet Feb 07, 2008

I too have the same problem with new 80 classic and the AVIC D3 . What seems to work is the following:

1.Connect the Apple A/V cable and start video(yes, that expensive APPLE cable without it being connected to anything.)

    2. Set Pioneer for Ipod Video

3.Then disconnect and connect the Pioneer cable. It should work fine, but do not touch the ipod controls with the Pioneer cable connected, it may freeze and you will need to reboot the Ipod.

This tells me that the the issue is with the cable, the new Ipod is not recognizing the Pioneer cable as a video cable and does not start video.

The ultimate solution may be with Pioneer modifying the cable design since Apple has no interest in helping. As far as firmware changes...It is my understanding tha Apple groups its software updates with firmware updates, so separating the two in the long run may not be the answer..

I just had an AVIC D3 installed a few weeks ago and its freakin sweet. It worked great with my last generation IPod. Unfortunately it does not work with the videos with my brand new 80 gig video ipod. I checked all the settings such as the video out, and they are identical to my older ipod. This is very annoying. I just sent an email to pioneer explaining this, so hopefully they can shed some light on this issue. Any other help would be great.

I have bought the Avic-D3 and a new 6th generation I-pod Classic 160 GB. Am using the ipod cable Pioneer CD-I200. And video won't work eventhough the Pioneer manual says otherwise. I've e-mailed Pioneer for compatibility info and this is what they told me:

The problem is Apple has crippled the 6th Gen Classic by introducing an Authentication chip. The ONLY way to get video out is to purchase a component cable from Apple @ $49.
The only product to date that is functional is the B&W Zeppelin speaker - available only from Apple for $599.
    Pricks.

GJDvet do you know what firmware you're using on your iPod? You can check this in iTunes once your iPod is plugged in. I've got the latest firmware, and am using the iPod component video cable and get scraggley white lines on the screen of my AVIC-D3. Using your method. Do I need to get the composite video adapter instead of the component? Hmmm. Let me know. Thanks.

This is a painful, but functional way to get Ipod Classic video on your D3. If you plug in apple's proprietary av cable and start a movie (in video out mode), you can then unplug the proprietary cable and plug it into your pioneer ipod cable. If your movies in the ipod are put together as "gapless albums" (a setting in the context menu under "info" in Itunes), it will continue to play one video after another without having to plug in the apple av cable again. Occasionally the ipod will "forget" and allow you to go from one video to another. The controls on the d3 are limited to play, pause, back, and forward, but works. Good luck!

I have them same setup... I have an 80GB classic with the same version software that it came with... My ipod is connected with the pioneer direct control cable and works fine for Audio and the sound for video play back but no image...

The solution is for pioneer to make a new direct cable that allow video playback .. (it requires a new license from apple) and new fireware inside the new cable... same as the one that comes in new ipod composite A/V cable...

After some research and some common electronics knowledge... this is what I am going to do to make this work for now that both pioneer and apple suck!...

you can use the composite A/V cable connected to the input on AVIC -D3... and use the ipod as an Aux input.. ofcourse you wont have the nice control from your AVIC from ipod menu but you have to use the ipod for full control... wut sucks about this method is that you have to switch between the pioneer direct cable and composite A/V cable eveytime you want to watch video or lesson to music... Bull shit!! .. and just wait till pioneer comes with the new cable...

The ipod classic screen got crushed behind a car powered seat. It sort of works, but the screen is really messed up. Any ideas?

Go to Ebay and buy a screen for a 6th gen ipod classic/video. Verify this with the seller

it must be for a 6th gen it has a different connection than the 5.5 gen
it's a wider ribbon

to install it go to YouTube and get a video:

The take apart of this unit is going to be similar but be very careful and work slowly.
Remember when you open the case your warranty is void

Ipod problems with Pioneer AVIC-D3

Do you have an ipod module or are you using ibus-to-rca cable to connect your ipod to the D3? In order to control full ipod functions by touch screen you need the ipod module, hence the D3 says ipod control ready not ipod control built in. Let me know so I can pin point the problem.

I think you need an Ipod adapter, for sale on Ebay from $35 to $50. It is a module not just ibus to Ipod cable.

No video from a new 160G ipod

There is a known incompatibility with 6th gen iPods and the DNX7100. Try to find a 5.5 gen iPod or wait until Kenwood releases a software patch.
