Question about JVC DR-MV1S DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

My unit (just all of a sudden) will not turn on by

My JVC DR-MV5SU (just all of a sudden) will not turn on by either by the power buttons on the front of the deck or by the remote control (I have checked the batteries and they checked out excellent). It worked fine the last time we used it. Now I see two led lights flashing at the top of the display under where it says VHS and where it says DVD. I have checked the fuse inside and it tested out good. Can you tell me what might be causing this problem? Or is there a repair manual available for this unit?

Check the power supply and all the capacitors throughout the unit, i have found that this is normally the case when an item will not power on and is displaying red LEDS. Good Luck.

If you can find a technician he can check the voltages from the power supply, other wise get a volt meter (or a multi meter) and im sure an online guide will be available on the net. Hope this helps.

My JVC DR-MV150B plays prerecorded VHS tapes fine.

Try opening the front hatch of the tape by pressing the small, square button on the right or left (short) side of the tape. Check the black tape inside for any marks, dirt, scratches, tears, etc. If the tape is fine then your unit needs to be cleaned with a tape cleaner available at any electronics specialty or retail store. Good luck to you!

Can't get DVD/VHS player to work.

This is a link to JVC's download for the DR-MV5SU (you typed MVSSU, which I'm guessing is just a typo):

Power failure in Jvc camcoder (dr-dv800)

There are protection fuses inside the unit to protect the electronics. This is not a repair for a novice. Bring the unit to an authorized JVC repair center. The parts cost should be around $5. Add in the local repair rate for the total cost.

Commonly this is cause by leaky capacitors in the secondry of the power supply SMPS ASSY.The PCB is located in the back right hand side of the unit.A visual inspection for any bulging of the capacitors will confirm this.
If you cannot change the capacitors yourself I suggest you take the unit to your local service center.

DVD displys "loading" constantly

First of all if it is still under warranty take it back and exchange it or have them look at it. As far as it not wanting to turn off you can search for a reset button on the back of the unit. Reset it. Or if no reset button just unplug it and plug it back in. See if that helps. As far as being jammed. Unplug the unit. Very carefully take the unit apart. See if anything has been accidentally placed in the unit when a dvd was pushed in at the same time. I have experienced this before cause I have little kids. Things happen. Now there again by taking it apart could void any warranty you may have. Also something in the unit could also shorted a circuit out causing it to not turn off.
