Question about ASUS N6200/TD GeForce 6200 AGP 256MB DDR Video Card w/TV-Out & DVI Retail ***Free 2nd Day*** Graphic Card

1 Answer

Card seems to be defective - slow, reboots, fails on resolution change

I tried installing ( The AGP 8.0 version of ) this card from a setup with no graphics cards or drivers installed whatsoever.

Install seemed to work perfectly, even though the 'safe mode' it booted into - 800x600x256 colors - prior to installing the drivers i found at Nvidia.com - seemed to be sluggish - windows were 'ghosting' on when i tried to move them.

After installing the device drivers - first tried the ones that come on it's disk, then tried the ones from Nvidia - i reboot the computer. it boots, again, to 800x600 x 256 colors, then goes black and reboots the computer.

... Help?

If Windows is continuously loading up to 800x600 then your drivers are not being installed. Are you using the the 169.21 Nvdia Forceware package? What OS?

I have not been able to add any AGP card to my PC.
My PC is a cube PC so I have been trying to install a "low end" AGP video card without a separate power connector. My only really requires are DirectX 9.x support and a minimum of 128MB (and no power connector)

The card I am currently trying to install is a Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9600Pro with 256MB.

I have also tried a ATI Radeon 9550 with 256MB and a Nvidia card

I have done all of the usual things, such as disabling onboard graphics, removing old video drivers, verified latest chipset drivers are installed, I reviewed the graphic adapter and don't see any conflicts etc.

I wonder if any of the cards I am trying to install will work with my AGP slot.
The manual for this Gigabyte card states "AGP 3.0 Slot or greater is required"
Unfortunately, this requirement wasn't on the Gigabyte or NewEgg web sites or the back of the box. Only in the install manual.

My Motherboard manual states "AGP 1.5v Card is required".

I got great AGP information from www.playtool.com. I used some of the tools suggested there such as Sandra Lite and other tools to try to determine what version my AGP Slot is. These tools don't seem to clearly state what

My PC is a Small Form Factor PC with 220W Power Supply.
It has integrated Intel Extreme Graphics
gBox P4 Blue CF-986L
Motherboard is a CFI-968L with last bios released (1.04)
www.american-media.com
Pentium 4 3.06Ghz
1G RAM
80G HD
Chipset is Intel 845GE
Intel Extreme Graphics
Windows XP Home

This is a awesome PC and I really would like to extend the life of it my adding any AGP card that supports DirectX 9.x

Try the following : Go into the setup routine using the onboard video. Go to the  Intergrated Peripherals.
Find the onboard video and change it to disable. Save changes.
Change monitor to the AGP card.
  I hope this helps.

Here is a web site for your Award Bios setup:

Inegrated Peripherals
This menu allows you to change the various I/O devices such as IDE controllers, serial ports, parallel port, keyboard etc. You can make changes as necessary. See figure 5.

Nvidia Geforce FX5200 128mb DDR AGP 8x

Hi, since you mentioned you installed an MSI card & it worked well. I can assume you changed the bios & to boot to the AGP rather than the Integrated 3D video. This is good. Notice the message you got from Nvivia. It could not locate any compatible drivers. This can indacates 1 of 4 reasons.
1. The 5200 was not completely incerted into the AGP slot.
2. The AGP slot is dirty & needs cleaned.
3. Nvidia software was installed but previouse graphics software was not removed (un-installed) before the installation of the nvidia software.
4.The card is bad.
Suggest you download the latest driver software from Nvidia.

Installing a Dell RADEON 7500 AGP video card into a Compaq Evo SFF

Did you remove the previous video cards drivers from the control panel? The Catalyst Control Center requires Microsoft’s .NET Framework version 2.0. To remove what might have installed or your old ATI software run this uninstaller for Radeon. Download here:
http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=1447
Try your install again.
