Question about ASUS N6200/TD GeForce 6200 AGP 256MB DDR Video Card w/TV-Out & DVI Retail ***Free 2nd Day*** Graphic Card

1 Answer

Card seems to be defective - slow, reboots, fails on resolution change

I tried installing ( The AGP 8.0 version of ) this card from a setup with no graphics cards or drivers installed whatsoever.

Install seemed to work perfectly, even though the 'safe mode' it booted into - 800x600x256 colors - prior to installing the drivers i found at - seemed to be sluggish - windows were 'ghosting' on when i tried to move them.

After installing the device drivers - first tried the ones that come on it's disk, then tried the ones from Nvidia - i reboot the computer. it boots, again, to 800x600 x 256 colors, then goes black and reboots the computer.

... Help?

If Windows is continuously loading up to 800x600 then your drivers are not being installed. Are you using the the 169.21 Nvdia Forceware package? What OS?

Geforce fx5500 256mb agp problem

If you failed to uninstall the old card (in the device manager, not just physically) the PC is still looking for the old card but can't find it. Try starting in safe mode (hit F8 when you reboot) If sucessful, go to device manager and uninstall the old card. Then install the new card and insert the installation cd to install the drivers. If this doesn't work, you may need to install the old card to properly uninstall it. NOTE: If you don't have the installation CD for the new card, this would be the time to download the necessary driver.
After you reboot, the machine will use default drivers until the new card's driver is installed.
Best of luck.

Screen going blank for a second or two while video freezes then jumps.

If you have on board graphics try removing video card and reboot when computer rebooted turn it of and refit card and restart when restarted computer should recognize new hard ware and should find the already installed drivers if not try installing drivers again
Sometimes windows does not recognize new hardware until its refitted
had this problem with modems alot and the above method solved it

AGP texture acceleration not avalable :(

Well your card is still an ATI & things have changed a bit. You don't just need the drivers but you need ATI's Catalyst Control Center. Through the Catalyst Control Center you have a ton of control that you just don't get with drivers alone. Suggest you update windows first. You'll need .Net framework 2.0 min. Do not skip lower versions of .Net framework & only install one at a time. Install DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft here:
Than download ATI's Catalyst Software Suite File size 46.6MB:
Uninstall any other versions currently installed on your system.
If for what ever reason the uninstall fails download and run ATI's uninstaller "cat-uninstaller.exe" to clean your system from here:

How to properly install Asus N6200 AGP video card

Set refresh to 60hz
Set color to highest position.
If this is an LCD, set it to the highest resolution
If this is a 15" or 17" CRT, set resolution to 1024x768.
If this is a 19" CRT, set resolution to 1280x1024.

Also, do not use the drivers on the CD. Go too and download the latest there.

Also, if you can get into the BIOS, try to disable the on board graphics if you see an option for it.
