Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
This is a known problem with these units and is caused by a fault which develops in the bluray lens. Sometimes you can resolve it by gently cleaning the lens with a Q-Tip and isopropyl alcohol but most often the lens itself will need replacing.
I have included this excellent walk-through on how you can do this yourself. Please be sure the console is disconnected from the mains supply before carrying out any of this type of work.
Otherwise the unit will have to be returned to Sony who generally replace the whole drive unit including the lens. Cost from Sony is $150 to make the repair.
