The WPA key is the encryption key that is configured in the router's wireless settings and the wireless cards in the laptop and desktop needs to be configured with this encryption setting to allow the laptop and desktop computer to communicate with the router.
You can view the encryption settings in the router's wireless settings or on the laptop's wireless card settings and then apply these encryption settings to the desktop's wireless card (ie. the SSID and the WPA encryption).

What exactly did you try, please give me details.

Were you able to get the WPA encryption key from the router or the laptops?

    OR

Could you open IE browser with one of the laptops and get into the router's wireless configuration to view the WPA encryption key?

The D-Link configuration IP address is 192.168.0.1

You can try to reset the router back to the factory defaults and start again from the beginning.

Powered up the D-Link and press the Reset button on the back of the router until the LEDs flash and then release the Reset button.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -

    1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
    2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
    3. Enter the router setup, login and password
    4. Change the admin password
    5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
    6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
    7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
    8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
    9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
    10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly

I am connected to a DIR 615, it says I have wireless connection but it won't connect wireless, if I connect a cable it is fine??

Hi mike63771,

All you need to do is to set it up properly. Make sure that the router is connected to the computer using an ethernet cable so that the computer will be able to communicate with the router. Then open a browser type 192.168.0.1 on the address bar. The default username is admin and the password is blank. Go to the Wireless Settings Page then check the SSID or Network Name and the Network Key or Passphrase. Now try to connect to your computer. Click on Start then click on Connect To. Select your Network Name then if it ask you to enter a password enter the Network Key. You can personalize the network key on the router settings page.

Rate me if this helps so i can help other.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Try to configure your new router and you have to reconfigure the Range extender to tally with the new router. The IP Address that the range extender should have should depend on the DHCP server of your router that provides the IP Address.
