Question about Dryers
Hiya - my beloved Tumble Dryer of 10 years is not rotating. Still heats and still makes noise but drum is not going round. My gut feeling it is the belt but when I have phoned local repair man he has huffed and puffed and wants to charge me £35 to come and take a look. My dilemma is whether to have it repaired or buy a new model with warranty. If it is just the belt, I think it is something my husband could do and I could get further use out of it - any thoughts?
Both sound like the drive belt to me - I've just replaced mine.
BirdG is probably snapped.
mildew is on the way - the motor will burn through it if left unfixed.
you may be able to tighten it and get more time out of it but sounds like it has a worn patch and will go soon.
(tightening is easy- just remove the fan belt cover at the back, slacken the large bolt below the motor and rotate the motor to push the jockey wheel harder against the belt, then retighten the bolt.
replacing is harder.
