I understand your problem to be that at the time you were executing the critical reboot just prior to installing Windows with Boot Camp, you placed the Windows CD into the wrong optical drive. Now your machine is stuck at the gray screen and is not responding to anything and will not boot from the system DVD
I have encountered this problem previously. The solution is to boot from an external drive containing a valid copy of the Mac OS. Although your machine will not boot from a DVD at this point, it WILL boot from an external drive if you hold down the Option key after you hear the startup chime, and select that drive's icon when it appears. Once you have successfully booted, go to System Preferences / Startup Disk to select the Mac partition of your internal drive, and your machine will reboot normally.

This leaves only the question of how you obtain an external drive containing a valid of the Mac OS. Some options are 1) a cloned backup drive, 2) another Macintosh via "Target Disk Mode," or 3) have someone create you such a disk from another machine. On the plus side, this solution involves no loss of your data, which makes it worth pursuing.

How do I install 10.5 .dmg to a 10.4.11 to upgrade?

Hi,
You need to have the DMG file on an external drive connected by firewire to your G5.You may need to install the 10.4.11 system onto the external HD first though. Having the dmg on the same drive that you are trying to install onto will not work as the installer will be trying to install istself into itself.
You might find that if you use disk-Utility (Utilities folder) and make a DVD from the dmg that you can start the G5 from that DVD and them the install will work. Might have to experiemtn though - it's a while since I've done one so my memory is a little hazy.

Replace iMac g5 20 hard drive

Hi John
Try reinstalling via your macbook pro but this way round.Put the Leopard Disk into the Macbook and then start the Macbook in Target mode.on the iMac start it up and hold down the Option (or Alt) key then wait.after a short while you will be offered the HD in the MacBook and the DVD. Choose the DVD and see what happens.
What happens when you do it the other war arounds is that you are installing a startup system for the MacBook onto the HD of the G5 and not the system for the G5. The installer uses the firmware of the motherboard that is running the install to select the correct version.
Another issue is that the disk formatting may be wrong. it's unlikely seeing that you used disk utility from the DVD, but it is possible.
Let us know how you get on.

Imac is not detecting my LaCie External Hard Drive

Do you have a CD disc software installer of your external hard drive (F.A. Porshe 160GB).? If you got it, you must reinstall it, so that your Imac can detect it. Otherwise, find it at the internet and download it.
The power failure could have damage some stored data about your External Hard Drive in your Imac. That's why, you have to reinstall it. Send us your e-mail comments for us.

While trying to install OS10.5 and it will attempt to but it freezes, you the Apple booting circle it stops.

Probably the OS 10.5 version your're installing is not compatible or supported by the system motherboard of your computer model Apple Power Mac G5. per my research from Apple website herewith is their solution quote on what applicable OS to install for such model: "Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) and iMac G5 (iSight) models require Mac OS X 10.4.2 or later, you can t install Final Cut Pro 3.x or earlier versions on these computers. Final Cut Pro 3.x and earlier versions are not supported on any computer running Mac OS X 10.4". best regards

Can't locate the dirve in Target Disk Mode

You are going to need a system install disk for this machine if you want to reinstall it. However, if you just want to run diagnostics, any system install disk for MacOSX should do the trick. You just won't be able to run the installer once you boot from the DVD. The first thing I would do is make sure the eBay seller sold this to you in this condition and without the install disc, because if not, you've got an issue with them.

If you don't have an install disc, your cheapest solution is to call Apple and order a replacement disc for your model computer. You will need your serial number, which you can find on the sticker on your computer. Good luck, and let me know if you need more guidance with this.

Well the flashing question mark means its not finding a bootable device meaning the hard drive has no OS on it. You should be able to put jaguar on it if its a retail version and not one from another mac product. Let me know how this works for you

try turning the external drive off & wait a minute then turn it back on.if it works just drag what you want to transfer from your mac to the external drive and it should copy it to the drive.
